Actually, here's another theory. The photo was bugging me and I finally figured out why.... Then it just hit me, why didn't the driver try to reverse away from the bollard after hitting it? It would be anyone's first reaction in that situation!
Was the car hit from behind by a hit and run driver?

Thank goodness the bollards were there otherwise idiot/old driver could have caused some serious injury.

Yeah, annoiys the hell out of me how the older folks do stuff like THIS and it gets a minor mention in the news.... But if that had been a young driver it would have been up in everyone's face and caused an uproar amongst local residents. My money is on old person!
And another one
Young driver would lose his licence for this (and the above), but the elderly driver will be back on the road as soon as she finds a new car.
Not a big fan of the USA, but at least they've openly recognised that the elderly are a liability on the roads.
Back to parking......... How angry would you be if THIS were your car?
I like the "freak accident" part of that report, replace "freak accident" with utter incompetence and your half way to getting it right.
