I want you guys to find the perfect subtle car.

It has to be one where you pull up alongside and think it has nothing going for it...yet it is hiding a 400BHP engine under its bonnet. My friend has a Van with 300BHP.

Add links to any you guys find.

my old UrS4 Avant used to a cracking job as a sleeper, most people just saw a big old Audi estate.

I'm about to buy a C32 AMG estate. Debadged. 354 bhp and 450Nm of torque yet looks like a fairly standard Merc.

Have to say that will be mouthwatering.

Debadged cars are great in my opinion. All about being subtle. The only one I would avoid are the Bimmers. Those pretending to be M3s etc

Supercharged XJR fits the bill in my opinion.

I think actually you can't go wrong with an E36 M3 saloon. It wouldn't take much to make it look like a 320i or something. You'd just need some door trim, some standard mirrors and a standard bumper. Remove the boot spoiler (if there is one) and you've got a sweet sleeper.

Only downside is the wheels which you can't do a lot about due to the size of the brakes. Still, lots of kiddies in their 316's put M3 wheels on, so its not a total loss.

As for Audi RS4's etc, they look altogether too muscular with their wide arches and their bonnet bulges. Same goes for the E46 M3. I like the idea of the E46 M3, but I hate the bonnet bulge and the vents on the side of the car. Eugh.

I'm really in the mood for a bit of a sleeper at the moment and despite being skint I think if I were to go for one it would probably be a 130i. Sure, it doesn't have 400bhp but if you buy an SE model and debadge it, most people wouldn't know that it wasn't a 116i or something. A 116i with 250bhp.

If I was going brand new then it would be a non badged 135i M sport. 305bhp and turbocharged so easy modifcation with remapping. I reckon 350bhp should be pretty doable without too much hassle. lick

Bar my de-badged, de-spoilered M3 Evo. Looks like a regular 3 series from the rear. Doesn't pretend to be anything.

But it's a Jag, innit? Hardly what you'd expect to be slow.
Old SAAB 900s with the turbo turned up, tweaked Volvo T5Rs on steel wheels and BoB stickers in the rear, those Metros with the racing 1,4 K series engines, are sleepers to me.

Amazingly rapid for the quoted power. Lotus Carlton acceleration. Hope you enjoy it smile

Its a bit too shiney though isn't it?

Personally I'd rather have something that looks like it had been a minicab for 300 years, with spots of primer over it and that which had ferrari underpinnings. It also has to be a saloon. Not a coupe or a hatch... it has to have potential but look like a shonker.

Like my 130k mile 325i if it had 500bhp... but it doesn't. frown

I'd say a tune'd Saab 9-5

How about that Lancia with the Ferrari engine? Saying that it's probably not that quick by today's standards.

Omega with Lotus Carlton running gear?

V8 MX5?

I did see one of these with a tuned sierra cosworth engine in it, along with (shortened) Sierra 4x4 running gear...
