The Sirocco, no matter what guise is always going to be a rep mobil imo, likewise with the golf.
rofl A Scirocco is a rep mobile and a Focus isn't?
The difference between the RS and an TDCI is quite distinctive. Cant same the same for the Sirroco really.
get off with you.

fair enough there's not that much difference between a scirocco and a scirocco r but the scirocco itself is way different to a golf (although i question why the 3dr golf still exists in 20T guise..but that's an aside).

i am not an FRSmk2 hater - far from it but it only looks distinctive due to the sheer volume of stuff glued on to it. sontrast this with the mk1 RS which managed to be different yet without being so overtly ASBO (in looks).
Way different to a Golf in looks perhaps but my point regarding the fact that they the hot versions are very simaler to the warm versions and that the warm versions are used heavily as rep mobil's.

The RS with its outlandish looks (sticky on bits) and fantastic engine note is far different from other Focuses available.

This is not a debate on what looks good or not. Just the simple fact that there isnt much to differentiate between the Hot and Wrm versions of the VW's.

Fair enough. To my mind if it was a 4wd V6 it would be a worse car in just about every way (noise being the one exception).
And why exactly is that? Yes it would weigh more but apart from that why would it be worse in just about every way?

dave - fair enough.
one thing i have noticed though is how ford have deliberately toned down the ST in mk2.2 guise presumably to as much to make the RS more different. the original 5cyl ST was much more obvious than the one they're currently selling - which in most colours could easily be a zetec with bigger wheels!

______

i do agree with one of the other posts above - this is how all sciroccos should look the std model is too far from concept but this is a lot nearer. in fact it make syou wonder at what point they decided to make the R...

Have to say I still can't decide if this car is really beautiful or really ugly???

However how do VW get away with producing such dreary drab dull looking interiors confused

It's gorgeous! I'd prefer it with a V6 for the noise, and with the MK6 Golf interior, but otherwise it's pretty much perfect.

Have we not already established that if the car isn't German, English or Italian, then it's no good hahaha (joke!)

Seriously though, Vauxhall = yuk, Ford = yuk, Nissan = yuk.

No?

Thumbs up from me. However, I can imagine the brakes and steering will feel completely lifeness but it looks great I must admit. Think I prefer to the RS also FWD just doesn't cut it. Best VW in a long time.

Glad they have these lights. The quicker most UK vehicles are fitted with running lights the better. The reason for me saying that, too many morons drive without sidelights at least in low light conditions or heavy rain. It makes it harder to spot oncoming vehicles in certain conditions, even as a pedestrian.

Oh, has it also caught Daytime Chav Strip disease? Or are they normal LED sidelights?

Wow - a lot of comments on this thread from the sheep it would seem!

Looks fantastic and appears very quick and usable. Exactly what a UK hot hatch should be. Want one smile

I don't know about the UK, but over here in Belgium, the bikes stood out due to their lights being on...

DLR (leds or no leds) make them lose that advantage...

IF lighting conditions are poor, there is always an option for automatic lights these days in most cars.

Tuning potential, Fuel economy, handling, weight for a start pretty fundamental, also emmissions if your bothered about that. The Scirocco is better suited to a smaller engine

As you can see I had already mentioned the weight. Not that the R32 weighed much more then the GTI anyway. Fuel economy and emissions has nothing to do with it being a better performer.

Tuning pottential is obvious but you still get the engine that lacks sound and charactor under the bonnet.

Ofcourse a smaller engine is more suitable but that certainly does not make the car any better.

Weight is the key problem leading to lesser handling so you can't just dismiss that. The car is already carrying extra with the drivetrain.

Powerwise, the VW V6 is pretty crap anyway compared to the straight sixes BMW produce. Much better having the lighter, faster and more frugal 4 cylinder Turbo unit in a car badged R.

The V6 is better suited to GT. Case closed.
