Yes I think its a case that BMW UK should not have direct responsibility to you but should be responsible for bringing the dealership in line for damage to their name and keeping you informed of their investigations/actions with the dealership to satisfy you that you are important to them as the end user of their product. The dealership should then (with a little pressure where necessary from BMW UK) be responsible for rectifying the matter to a satisfactory conclusion with you.Ford

If I went to see a car that was stolen recovered I'd be expecting to pay less for it. That's the dealers fault. Directly.

Surely they must have some sort of legal obligation to thoroughly check all requests such as this?
Any failure to do so should result in action taken against them!

I have warned them enough that I will be taking action, they don't really care or maybe calling my bluff?? They can say they are being proactive in terms that they are trying to help sort of the mess by replacing the locks, the problem is that they are incompetent.
You must remember I have not lost any money (they are doing the repair free but they are bodging it up) and any loss to the value of my car is difficult to ascertain.
Personally my biggest disappointment is two things:
1) Lack of acknowldgement from the MD that a BIG mistake was made - he just is going along the lines that mistakes happen...
2) BMW UK desire to distance themselves as far away from this issue as possible - taking no responsibility

Yes but said scum would not have been able to steal your car without dealers help. Are you in the same position now as you were before the car was half inched no. Who is responsible for this.. Dealer. Forgetting the law for a moment! If it was my business. I'd be making a point of making your life easier for your troubles. Firing the employee, sorting the car correctly and giving you a free service including pick up and delivery when you next need it / or offering you the option of a car at cost. None of which would be costly at all to the dealership but would send you away telling hopefully quite a different story and making you feel like they were on your side in the matter. Not a cold shoulder to the customer!

Yes there has. Your car is now stolen/recovered, thus not as easy to sell or worth as much as it was prior to them enabling the thief to steal it! Sounds like financial loss to me.I've spoken to the BMW dealer concerned as we're a little worried that this thread is going to descend into chaos.

- This situation has highlighted a completely new method of vehicle crime. The garage concerned are absolutely mortified and are co-operating fully with two police forces to try and solve the crime.
- The OP is clearly aggrieved at the way he has been treated but the dealership have tried to do as much as they can to help solve the problem.
As the situation is ongoing and I don't particularly want to delete the whole thread at present, I'm going to close it here. I will also remove a couple of comments which contravene our N&S rules.
To the OP - please resist the temptation to begin another thread on the topic.
