I live in London, and only have one car. It's a Morgan Aero 8. I love it more than I have ever loved any car I have owned, and have owned it for longer.But when the weather is like this, and the roads are unpleasant, or I have to take a long trip, I borrow my housemate's £600 Vauxhall Vectra and relax in cocooned comfort.
I could buy a banger, but running two cars seems a bit stupid for me. And so I am thinking of replacing the Morgan. I want epic performance, reliability, limousine-esque comfort when required, and a convertible roof.
The 911 Turbo Cab, after test driving so many cars, is the only car that fits the bill. I shall miss the pure street theatre of the Morgan, and it's epic WW2 fighter plane noise - but a first generation 997 cab is being sought. I nearly went for an early Gallardo Spyder, but then sobered up and realised that this wouldn't improve on any of the things the Morgan does badly in day to day life.
If I'm quite honest, the Porsche, while being less entertaining, handles better than my Mog too - and is a lot faster (not that this is so relevant on UK roads). Is the Porsche less exciting than its rivals? Yes - it hasn't the flamboyance of a Ferrari, Aston or Lambo, or the insanity of something more leftfield like a Morgan. Would I have one if I were willing to own more than one car? No.
But is it the perfect vehicle for a city-dwelling, performance loving, one car man with no family? It is.
I even considered a 996 Turbo cab because, frankly, it was 90% as good at the 997 (especially with the X50 pack). But the interior is rubbish.

If Porsche had ever done a 993 Turbo cabriolet, there would be one parked on my drive.

You WILL miss the Morgan however.
In your position, I would keep the Morgan and buy something like a BMW 530 as an urban workhorse.

FYI, Harry, it had 19" Turbo 3 Split rims, with the arches rolled to allow for a little extra wheel, and an RS splitter at the front. Otherwise, pretty much as standard, but it was enough to turn heads everywhere I went, and this was only a couple of years ago. Looks wise I felt it brought it up to date without losing the character of the original. Anf most importantly, it was still the last of the air cooled classics that we'll sadly never see again.

far from an expert myself but i remember a chopped 993 turbo cab for sale a while back too. why chop one when you can buy one? so i assume it was a one off? could be completely wrong thoughIm sure i saw one advertised for sale somewhere a while back.

Had the standard (not wide track) body, and cost north of £130k if you can find one.
