Ahhh, now thats a brilliant idea for a luxury car maker: save costs and tell everyone about it. Assembly hundreds of miles away from management.... sounds like the plan of the century. Why not produce in China or directly go to Indonesia? Will be even cheaper than the UK . Or hang on, maybe Tata in India could produce a days work of Spykers on stock, maybe thats the best....

Good luck with marketing desasters like that.

Maybe because the UK is the world centre of specialist and sports car design, engineering, development and manufacture. And Motor racing. Adn this is known throughout the world. Apart from the well know European brands (Porsche, Ferrari and Lambo) you'd be mad to do a sport car anywhere else. The UK is the best. The whole world knows about it. Get used to it!

So do we now classify Spyker as a British car?

Only if you think the Aston Martin Rapide is Austrian.

This can only be a good thing. More money, more jobs.

We need to capitalise on being a great Engineering nation and drag this country out of this recession.

Hopefully some more big names will follow suit. I know we already do a lot, but we need to raise the profile. We British are far too quick to put ourselves down.

Excellent news - something coming into the UK rather then going out of it!

Are they still going to make that ridiculous 4x4?

Have you actually seen & been in one? I used to hate them, but the detailing is beautiful.

Why are people slating this???.. Are they so ignorant not to notice we are in a RECESSION and there are currently millions of people unemployed. Now i am in no way suggesting that STYKER are going to be the saviour of britain. But surely any company providing jobs to the motor industry is a good thing!!!!!

Only pity is that they're not relocating to that nice factory and ready workforce in Blackpool - like three years ago..... hehe

I thought it was just me who thought they were a bit funny looking! Good to see manufacturing in the UK tho.

I've followed these since the 2000 Motor Show at Brum. Got my hands on a limited edition brochure complete with Spyker aero badge propeller, numbered max of 500. Might be on ebay once they locate here biggrin unless someone wants to give my a wad now for itbiggrin

Bear in mind they don't make many cars, around 40 in the last couple years.

Also, might be moving to UK because they had a net loss of 8.7 million euros - slightly lower than in first half year of 2008.

You'd be suprised at the amount of production cars made at CPP for various manufcturers. I bet most of the customers don't know that their very expensive car is actually made on a small industrial estate on Coventry! Good on them though.

I used to regard Spyker as a bit of a form before function type of car but to be fair they put one on Porsche at Le Mans this year!

Just remembered they were at Autosport 1000km le mans at Silverstone too in Sept this year.

Did a quickie vid of the 2 road versions on display (just uploaded on YouTube with background race cars sound on).
Some say they are a bit 'bling' but you can just imagine the presence of one of these pulling up at the lights!! I wouldn't mind onebiggrin Prefer the white than the 'you've been tango'd one'.

The actual race Spyker I think also beat Porsche at the Tommy Coronel and Jarek Janis - can't remember properly as I was too busy watching the Mansells and the Ginetta Zytecs.
Here's a bit of vid going out from under the bridge - bit quick to spot the Spyker but it should be in there somewhere!!

I sooo want to like Spyker. Love the concept but find the cars a little "over-styled".

Anything that brings a bit of automotive flair back to the West Midlands has to be welcomed!!

Well as Englishman in NY who just bought one I think this is good news. They don't make many but this move and the partnership they now have with Lotus is encouraging - maybe they'll eventually get the finances the right way up (they've lost about Euro400k per car so far!)

Incidentally it really is a great drive - and the engineering is exquisite even underneath the surface, and it drives like an Exige with 400hp V8....

Oooh err....! See what I mean about over-styled? Looks like Fred Dibnah designed a new gear-change for the Tardis and then painted his police-box yellow! Still love the overall approach of Spyker though. Potentially a wonderful fit with Lotus.
