Agreed, we need a return of more UK industries.
I read an article recently explaining how the UK 'is set' to be the next big software enginnering country, and will start to challenge the US in the coming years.
Hopefully the various UK industries will continue to expand in specalist/new areas throughout the digital age.
Im sorry? In which idiot magazine did you read that piece of crap?I read an article recently explaining how the UK 'is set' to be the next big software enginnering country, and will start to challenge the US in the coming years.

We already *are* one of the biggest software engineering countries, hell outside of the US we are probably the next bloody biggest!
- Bangs head against the wall in frustration at the inneptitude and ignorance on display in this country at times*
Sorry, must be my mistake, 74 of the top 100 software companies are in the USA, the EU has 13 of those remaining with 8% of the largest coming from Japan. The article is somewhere to be found, but those are the hard facts. So if you think we're really a challenge to the US at the moment, and you think your pedantic, derogatory comments were justified, then fair enough.
My point was, that we are set to be in a position to challenge the US in the coming years, i.e. have more than a handful of companies in the top 100, unlike the USA with 74.
How this relates to Spyker and other industries, is hopefully they will follow the trend of our software industry.
By the way, buy this book - you might find it useful: http://www.amazon.co.uk/How-Win-Friends-Influence-...

"By 2000 the company was successful in winning contracts for fully-engineered concept-phase prototypes and projects have since been undertaken on behalf of clients such as Aston Martin, Bentley, Rolls Royce and Dutch super-car manufacturer Spyker
CPP currently manufactures the complete aluminium chassis and body assemblies for all Spyker road and race cars
As manufacturers of quality and performance cars continually seek to reduce weight through increased use of specialist materials, CPP has the expertise to deliver high quality cost-effective prototype parts and low-volume manufacturing solutions."
That makes sense.
They also do replacement bodies for most classics built to order, one of the few places able to hand finish panels to order. Last time i was in there, they had a couple of race spec C, D and E-types, couple of Ferrari's and other exotica, all have new panels done, with Spyker as well its a joy to go inCPP currently manufactures the complete aluminium chassis and body assemblies for all Spyker road and race cars

Oooh err....! See what I mean about over-styled? Looks like Fred Dibnah designed a new gear-change for the Tardis and then painted his police-box yellow! Still love the overall approach of Spyker though. Potentially a wonderful fit with Lotus. There's a place for grey German interiors but not in the Spyker!
Oh and by the way, there's nowt wrong with Fred Dibnah either

Why is all this on a Spyker thread..... but just to add something - not only am I englishman in NY with a Spyker but the reason I left was the lack of an IT industry left in the UK. That's all I can really say without insulting anyone.
The point was relating the upturn of this bespoke industry to other industries.Belfast Boy said:

Well as Englishman in NY who just bought one I think this is good news. They don't make many but this move and the partnership they now have with Lotus is encouraging - maybe they'll eventually get the finances the right way up (they've lost about Euro400k per car so far!)
Incidentally it really is a great drive - and the engineering is exquisite even underneath the surface, and it drives like an Exige with 400hp V8....
Handsome car but - is that the handbrake on the side of the passenger seat? How do you work that? Looks tricky? Or is it something else??Incidentally it really is a great drive - and the engineering is exquisite even underneath the surface, and it drives like an Exige with 400hp V8....
