Relatively lightweight at >1600kg. That's a joke right?

I have say I'm not a fan. It reminds me of the Chrysler Crossfire too much and is a poor pastiche of the 300 SLR.

It's all about proportions and for the SLS it fails IMO. Contrast the rear of the old with the new. The front and rear are balanced in the original; in the new it's too front heavy. It's lost the lithe feminine looks of the original and replaced them with crass macho big wheels, vents, silly headlights, and phallus like front.

Extremely sexy! I do prefer the 5-spoke AMG wheels too. The others don't really stand out enough on it.

I adore this car. I'm just going to write 5000 emails demanding that ecurie25 get one as soon as they're released so i can play...

Incidentally, its such a shame that as soon as a car is released, f**kwits decide they're going to 'tune' it.

This 'masterpiece' is from MEC Design, apparently:

UncappedTag- Re: Z8 vs SLS

Yeah it's maybe as if a Z8, GTR and original SL had a threesome. I think the rear end in particular looks quite unhappy. Shame, as I think they almost got it very right!

I'm only moaning because I'm bitter and will never be able to afford one...

I wonder if they had to pay the toll to get into the 17 mile drive.

Some three weeks for you eh Chris! I can imagine the phone call:
Chris' Mum (CM): Do you want to come round for dinner?
Chris: Sorry mum, can't this week going to Italy to drive Ferrari 458.
CM: Next week?
Chris: Nope, Porsche Turbo cabrio in Germany?
CM: Oh ok, maybe the week after that?
Chris: Nope, going to Laguna Seca racetrack to drive new Mercedes SLS Gullwing.

Brilliant. Nice write-up btw.

I love the look of this car but also get frustrated with cars that taller people don't fit in. I drove a Lotus Exige the other week and with a helmet on, I had to permanently keep my head cocked to one side.

Oi! Who voted less than 10 ?!?! biggrin
I voted 9, because - as I am a bit of a luddite - I would still prefer a manual gearbox.

However I think that this car looks absolutely stunning. It's not what you would call beautiful or even perfectly proportioned, but it looks 'right' somehow.

One of the best looking new cars I've seen in ages.

I wonder if we'll get to see this used as an F1 safety car next year? They seemed to use a variety of other AMG Mercs over the last season.
Yes you will... A friend in F1 introduced me to one of his mates who works for AMG at the Mercedes Benz World Day a few weeks back, he was going to be working on the F1 SLS Safety car the following day. Don't think it's common knowledge yet, but yes it will be being used next season.
Excellent! If they get the light bar issue sorted out, I think this will look awesome parked at the front of the grid with the doors up. Not to mention the sound when it gets moving.

Great looking car, front and sides - but looks like they got bored styling the rear....it looks rubbish!

Merc - must try harder when trying to emulate an icon!

I like it.

It's retro in a good way. Love those doors.

Additionally, hamster will have to test it because Jezza is too tall! laugh
He'll need a stepladder to reach the open door won't he?

I really didnt think that they could ever make a car that was uglier than the old SLR but they have. Well done Merc.

I have just died a little bit inside looking at this.

Love the look of the SLS though and the idea of a retro feeling, quite enclosed interior is very appealing I think.

Its hideous, sorry if this upsets anyone but it truly is, who on earth styled it? was it styled? who thought the B pillars looked good? the front?

Just proves MB cant style a pretty car anymore.

Interesting that the majority of people think it's lovely and a few think it's awful with very little in between.
