RE: Mercedes SLS AMG Gullwing
Discussion
Relatively lightweight at >1600kg. That's a joke right?
I have say I'm not a fan. It reminds me of the Chrysler Crossfire too much and is a poor pastiche of the 300 SLR.
It's all about proportions and for the SLS it fails IMO. Contrast the rear of the old with the new. The front and rear are balanced in the original; in the new it's too front heavy. It's lost the lithe feminine looks of the original and replaced them with crass macho big wheels, vents, silly headlights, and phallus like front.

I adore this car. I'm just going to write 5000 emails demanding that ecurie25 get one as soon as they're released so i can play...
Incidentally, its such a shame that as soon as a car is released, f**kwits decide they're going to 'tune' it.

Some three weeks for you eh Chris! I can imagine the phone call:
Chris' Mum (CM): Do you want to come round for dinner?
Chris: Sorry mum, can't this week going to Italy to drive Ferrari 458.
CM: Next week?
Chris: Nope, Porsche Turbo cabrio in Germany?
CM: Oh ok, maybe the week after that?
Chris: Nope, going to Laguna Seca racetrack to drive new Mercedes SLS Gullwing.
Brilliant. Nice write-up btw.

Oi! Who voted less than 10 ?!?!
I voted 9, because - as I am a bit of a luddite - I would still prefer a manual gearbox. However I think that this car looks absolutely stunning. It's not what you would call beautiful or even perfectly proportioned, but it looks 'right' somehow.
One of the best looking new cars I've seen in ages.

I wonder if we'll get to see this used as an F1 safety car next year? They seemed to use a variety of other AMG Mercs over the last season.
Yes you will... A friend in F1 introduced me to one of his mates who works for AMG at the Mercedes Benz World Day a few weeks back, he was going to be working on the F1 SLS Safety car the following day. Don't think it's common knowledge yet, but yes it will be being used next season.Beefmeister said:

Love the look of the SLS though and the idea of a retro feeling, quite enclosed interior is very appealing I think.
