Despite been told the RAF and FAA would have access to the codes and the supply of UK expertise to the F35 programme it seems the US is about to renege on it's promise.

Part of our "special relationship" with the US...

I'm sure they could launch Sea Vixens and Buccs off these new carriers. Simple technology - pretty robust - no fancy IT. Off you go.

I reckon we should simply tell them that as the goods are 'not as advertised' we want our money back, plus costs for the development work our industry has carried out for it. Also quickly get the shipyard to add the optional catapults to our carriers, and look at either navalising the Typhoon or buying Rafale M.

However, in the real world, Winky and Co. will just simper a little, bend over, and let the US rape us again.

I wonder whether they have "issues" with the software TBH. This will be high SIL software and it could be possible that it's not turned out as high as they hoped - just a thought. They may be trying to sort it before it is released.

Seems to be part one of the inevitable payback for "Winky" and co giving away all British Sovereignty to his European cronies.

If the US gave us access we would then just hand it over to some unelected undemocratic tw@t in Brussels, then bend over and say "take me again..."

I would love us to have the code "as advertised" but Britain today isn't the country it was when the deal was negotiated.

Unless we can break some of the chains we are set to be treated this way from now on, get used to it.

Not quite as piss-boiling as the post-war Labour Government handing a whole jet engine to the Russians - who promptly copied it and built Mig-15s to shoot us down.

Jeez, how naive can people get?

With any luck the yanks will just run it on Win 7 - they'll start falling out of the sky soon enough..

Maybe we should send our American-built Trident missiles back to them* express delivery as a protest.

Nukes from (almost) orbit.

* with the British-made warheads attached - got to share the technology!

Isn't this the exact same problem we had with the special forces Chinooks that ended up sat in a hanger at Boscombe Down for years?

Surely the propellerheads on the PH Computing forum could knock something together in a day or two?

I've got a Flight Sim program for a Sinclair ZX81. Perhaps we could install it in a Buccaneer as part of an avionics upgrade.

But it's not fly-by-wire. Is it for the navigator to play with, to take his mind off the fact that the guy in the front seat is better than him? biggrin

Too right!

That whole mess with the Chinook was the same. We have the smarts to do this.

I know for sure, that at the top of the MOD, they have no faith that we can do it, and at the bottom of the MOD, good enough people are being told they are not allowed.

This is the result of too much bureaucracy.

That said, we should just put catapults on the carriers, use a different aircraft, and cut the Americans out. They just stiff us every time.

They'd have to find a cure for the poor fitting of the 48K plug in. Every time it wobbled, your data was lost.

I'm sure it was the otherway round, we wanted our own software for them so didn't buy the American spec ones and let some muppet in whitehall organise the avionics specification hence why it got messed up.
Let the Americans do it at least you'll know it will work.
