This is why some of us loathe Fords. You were forced to endure dull, depressing drivel on a daily basis, we were blessed with gorgeous and quick Italian motoring smile And that twin cam smile

Ours were all reliable aswell and we had enough of them!

Umm another desirable shed. I do not want (liar!). I had a very poorly HPE, bodily good but the engine had the worst HGF I've ever seen. Before I had a chance to do anything with it Mrs TR7V8 made me sell it. SOme loony from the NE bought it & took it back on an A Frame on the back of a citroen BX!
Some spares seem to be getting harder to get but I still want one!

Beautiful car, as was the HPE and I desperately wanted one at the time. That is a lovely looking car, vene now and showed up the contemporary 3 series for the ugly little thing it was.

Addmiteditly I am normally into big german barges, probably because of my love of over-engineering. However I spotted the Beta Coupe in the classifieds the other day and contrary to what I normally like, I just thought it looked fantastic.

On one hand part of me remembers some of the horror stories about the Beta, and thinks it's probably a good thing that I don't have the cash to buy it at the moment. The other side of me however has such an unquantifiable urge to own one!

I was looking at this ad only a couple of days back, lovely looking car, but cant help thinking you would be in for a world of pain.
I did try a good few years back to persuade my company to add the Lancia Dedra to our car list, unfortunatly or fortunatly Lancia pulled out of the UK before I got a reply from the Fleet Manager !

Lovely car, very pretty and well-proportioned while remaining individual and distinctive.

Nice car - another interesting SOTW.

By the way - if you want to consider a German barge for SOTW next week, then I have one for sale at the moment! Photos to follow over the weekend:

Might help if you had some photos if you are going to shamelessly advertise on another thread.

Lovely Motor. Please don't tempt me. I don't need another. Alot more fun to drive that I expected.

Here is our Beta 2 litre at Spa Last year.

It has a 'bit' of rust but otherwise is great. The engine is being refreshed at the moment for next year, as in it's class it is quite a competitive car.
Just the sort of thing to race in the new "Super 70s" class of CSCC Future Classics (1970-1981 modelt types & <2 litres), The SOTW is lovely, but I'd prefer an Alfa Sprint myself.

I had a Beta Spyder about 10 years ago. It was totall reliable and cracking fun. Traded it in for my first XJS.

Trying to sell an XJS now and there's another Beta coupe I've got half an eye on.

Me and my brother were both ferried around in a light blue one in our younger days. I don’t ever remember it suffering a mechanical failure however on a trip to Tesco’s a speed bump caused the suspension to come through the boot and force the boot open!

The key must have also failed at some point as a 2p coin had been welded to it to replace the broken handle section.

Much better than the other Ford and Vauxhall cr@p my mates parents had!

Looks lovely....just wonder how painful ownership would be!
Yup, she's a beaut!

RE pain: If its like Alfa ownership, then akin to hitting yourself in the 'nads with a mallet then pulling your own scrotum off.

  • sigh* Wish I'd never sold the GT Junior!

MIGHT HELP IF YOU READ WHAT I HAVE WRITTEN ABOUT THE PHOTOS COMING OVER THE WEEKEND, BEFORE SHAMELESSLY MAKING POINTLESS COMMENTS.

And I only mentioned it as SOTW said it MIGHT resort to ao German Barge for next week's SOTW.

Honestly - some people.

In the last photo, I notice the owner of this Beta also has a Fiat X-1/9 parked on the other side of the Volvo V40. I guess with two temperamental Italians in the stable he needs a reliable Volvo to get to work on time!

Love that Beta, however. I lusted after them back when I had my Fiat X-1/9. Bloody hell, I was a glutton for punishment!

Had one years ago back in 85 or 86 - loved it then would love another now

Watch the windscreen Pillars for rust above everything - tricky area to repair

Found a rag top (partial version) a few years back but guy wanted way too much money for a car with rust under filler in pretty much every corner - price never dropped as long as I watched it till finally it dissappeared - I found out later it was cubed!!!

An Itallian car with a very bad rep build quality wise.

This shed has made it past the quarter centrury mark so it can't be a heal of st. Can it?

I would love that car on my drive.

Its the knack of modest yet truly beautiful styling on Itallian cars of this generation that makes me love them (Fiat Strada apart). Everything looks right, elegant alloys, functional and attractive bumpers, nice glasshouse thin pillar coupe body.

I so wish I was a lottery winner so I could get that car, send it off to the best mechanics, bodyshop and trimmers and get a money-no-object rebuild.

I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

Excellent shed! Even felt my wallet twitch a little.

A guy I used to work with commuted in one. It looked slightly worse than Clarkson's African example and yet - miraculously - kept chugging on.

On a completely random note I saw a gorgeous 'Gralle Evo 2 parked next to a very smart Alfa Spider V6 over lunch. cloud9
