i quite like it!
The IQ has a shocking interior and this is what it needed.
I do agree it lets down the Aston brand, but if we want to continue to see the muscular engined Astons of the past to continue, they need to produce something liek this to reduce the company wide average co2 emissions.

I totally 'get' why this exists, and long may Aston continue because of it.

But still, it's just so damn UGLY!!!!

Why not Aston-ise a Fiesta? At least its a decent shape to start with...

Havoc - I am trying to find out if the average is weighted, but Google is not my friend on this one. It would make sense if it were, butthen surely it would make sense to actually produce a desirable city car and sell it to the masses using a sub-brand...like Lagonda or some such. Make Lagonda the 'junior' brand.

I dunno. I was merely making the point that it's ok for it to be ugly and un-desirable...they are not trying to sell any to anyone on here.

It's Europe that's caused this with that range average CO2 quota thingy.

I don't understand the thinking behind the IQ as a base though? Why didn't they just take the Smart Coupe (either as a concept or actually buy the tooling), keep the 3 cylinder turbo, Prettify the outside, add a bespoke interior, stick an aston badge on and be done with it. The car would then have had at least a vestige of aston principles like being RWD, pretty etc. Could have even made it hybrid getmecoat

Interior reminds me of a certain Tarantino movie

I have only seen about 2 of the regular iQ things, so I doubt that one probably costs 10x the price will have legs

No thanks Aston. Pop stars might go for it, but every other Aston driver would (hopefully) give it a big thumbs down. Too much bling, not enough sophistication.

biggrin I just gave this a 10 on the PH'o'meter'meter'oh'baby thing.

Surely most PH readers are clever enough to realise(*) that this exists for one reason and one reason only - to lower brand emission averages in line with new legislation. Aston NEED to do this in order to be able to keep making beasts like the DBS without being fined out of existence.

So well done, Aston - please put it into production. I suspect Aston don't care if they sell 0 of them, if it means their range average comes down.

(*) - Wait a minute....you guys actually think this is a genuine attempt at producing a real, cool, small, affordable, attractive Aston Martin??? MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They could achieve the same end by introducing a different brand name. They don't have to use the AM name under EU legislation - surely it's a corporate ownership deal.

If Aston can take a cheap Japanese runabout, cover it in shiny bits and leather and then charge £20k thus making a fair bit of profit and lowering their average emmissions then surely it has to be a good thing (even if the thing itself isn't that good)?

I can see these selling pretty well.

Aren't Aston doing it to reduce the average C02 output of their cars so they don't get stuffed by some absurd EU tax?

If this car helps Aston survive (even if they sell one per year), I say fair play and get on with it.

Good comment!!!

And the look is not so bad after all.
I hate the awkward line work of the iQ design.
But AM cleaned it up a lot except the awful 3/4 rear-side window. This round curve already feels wrong in the original Toyota design.

I would like to see in 'Chiltern Green' with 'Saddle' coloured interior.

It seems not so clever to present it in white.

The Toyota IQ is a truly great car. What could Aston do to fk it up? <- that's me being positive.

This is me being negative: What on earth would possess someone to pay over the odds for an IQ that had had a brothel installed where the seats should be?

The exterior is uglier than the standard IQ,but 20k is not so expensive considering that a well-specced 1.2 TSI Polo costs almost that much.

This WILL be worse than a smart brabus.. As the smart brabus is actually quite light and nippy (and turbo'd).. this will weigh a ton, and it will be all green friendly.
i hate it.. i would actually rather drive one of those gwizz things.. i mean really, if you saw one of these on the motorway (whatever car your in) you would storm past just to humiliate the driver, and give the wan**er sign out the window.. i would anyway.

That spec in the IQ itself (IQ3 1.33 Auto) with metallic, leather, and Nav would come to just under £15K.....
