On my way to the dentist this morning and the main roads are closed / blocked. I turn into Leicester road near hill lane in Southampton only to find a zero grip sheet ice with oil on it surface and a high curb which removed my front wheel. I want to rip the useless fking council a new ahole for failing to do anything grit wise on a road which has apparently seen 6 accidents in 2 days. I was literaly crawling around at 5 mph with a Car with awd and I couldn't do a fking thing to stop it. Good job there were no parked cars or people around and the slow speed means the damage isn't too bad. WTF DO WE PAY OUR fkING COUNCIL TAX FOR.

You've ripped your front wheel off impacting a curb at 5mph?

And its somebody elses fault?

5mph.
High kerb removes front wheel.

Whilst I sympathise with your plight, I think you may be being economical with the facts; moreover I believe I saw a news story the other day saying that people should only make essential journeys...

Personally I would pay to have it fixed, and then remember in future that snow and ice is slippery...

'man up' you're responsible for your own actions, yes the council should do more but also you were in control (or not) of the car.

Sorry if that sounds harsh.

Errummm. Isn't it customary on pistonheads to let the condemmed man get in a full page of ranting before we set the dogs loose?

This is one of those threads that where you can tell exactly what the responses will be to the OP, but you can't help but go back and confirm your predictions.

I feel for you but the warnings have been pretty clear for the last 48hrs that only essential travel should be taken. Now if you went out for a check up ant the dentists I wouldn't call this essential. I do hope you manage to get everything sorted easily.

I've some sympathy, in that none of the roads in my part of Oxfordshire have been gritted. I don't know what they're playing at, in Yorkshire the lorries work to clear the snow and grit 24/7 if necessary.

But, um, driving within the limits of the conditions is 100% the responsibility of the driver.

I've been driving around past the abandoned / crashed cars with no major issues, ahhh the joys of 300 BHP and AWD. I've been using all the little back / country lanes to get around all the snarl ups hehe
Pride coming before a fall, perhaps?

Tomorrow I'll let everyone know about how I had to pull my car out the hedge on the way home from work tonight biggrin No one is immune smile

The crampon is on the other foot now!

What is it that comes before a fall....black ice? Lack of grit? Oh yes that's it pride.
