Couple of minor technical details wrong in the article, but only a real anorak would know that. Errr...

Anyway, that blue 993tt is well known in Porsche circles. It used to have a very short number plate on it and a very fastidious owner. Tons of money spent on it and with an epic detail spec. If anyone's particularly interested feel free to pop over to the 993 turbo forum on rennlist, you'll soon find it.

Still isn't a GT2 though smile

Just for the record PH towers asked if they could borrow some of our cars for this article. No money changed hands, we provided the cars and fuel, valeted them afterwards etc, all we ever ask (and this is the same of the print magazines who use our cars) is that they leave our Malton plates on the cars, not a lot to ask I think.
maybe you should ask the owners permission before you lend out their cars. Not really happy that first thing I know is logging on and seeing my car. Will arrange to collect as soon as I am back in uk.
eek

Malton in 'aggressive marketing Royally backfires' shocker ?

There's 2 ways to look at this;
1. If they're servicing or storing your car then big no no and you have a right to throw toys out of the pram.

2. If you've asked them to sell your vehicle on any kind of sale or return (SOR)basis, then what the hell do you expect???? If it's sale or return they haven't risked any capital in funding the stock, but they've put the effort in to marketing your vehicle, rather than one they have ten's of thousand's of pounds invested in. It's all to easy for a dealer to leave a sale or return car at the back of the lot becasue there's no risk in it. So if indeed your relationship with them is oa SOR basis then I'd say get off your bloody high horse! What do you expect, them to NOT do their job??????

Jeez, cars don't sell them selves you know!

I guess we will all have different views on this. Would you expect Malton to telephone you every time a prospective purchaser wished to view and drive the car. Of course not. However this was not carried out with a view to purchase. Ok it gets the car out there but personally I would have expected a telephone call as a matter of courtesy to ask if I was OK with PH running this group test and using my 993 GT2.

186mph in as good as 40 seconds?

That isn't fast for a 580bhp car.

Is that a typo, or is that a very slow 580bhp car?

Err, that isn't fast?

Mclaren F1 with 627bhp, 250kg less weight, and better aerodynamics did 0-200mph in 28 seconds.

In reply to earlier comments, I think that PH should be reviewing more 'older'' cars like this as it proves to be an interesting read and is something that I think readers enjoy.

In reply to the comments of borrowing cars from dealers, we are really left with no choice but to do so. We (PH) want to drive interesting cars and unless owners offer them to us we need to rely on specialist dealers to loan us the metal. I don't think dealer supplied cars is a bad thing if it means that we can deliver a great feature.

Not sure the owner agrees with you there. But enjoyed the article all the same.

Indeed, although we did drive the cars a few months ago so I can only assume that we were behind the wheel long before the new owner had signed on the dotted.

Not really.

That F1 time was always a bit shady vs the other interval times gathered:

Either way, these times seem to suggest the car is a bit slow for it's power against other rwd 911's of the last few generations (ie, GT2's or Rufs)

That dark GT2 has naff wing mirrors imho. As if they will make any difference for anyone on a road car, except making them totally useless frown
Really not keen... if they were better, then great, or even looked good, but they just look crap, and work crap as mirrors, to save maybe 2kg and add 1.5mph to the top speed hehe

Give me a good old turbo 4 with the factory GT(2?) kit or a standard RS smile

Well spotted, it is a typo, the car does it in a max of 29.8 seconds (I think this vid is old so may not be it's current time) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75G3gk2-XMU&fea... listen for the sunroof seal leaking near the end of the run. The car has had the sunroof and rain gutters deleted since, i think it may be a little quicker
And a vid of it on a flyby http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmsT6I0iPmM

I've been in this car at Brunters, it's properly quick, and if i had the money i would most likely have it in my garage smile

You have my sympathies. I had terrible grief wheb a supposedly respected specialist tried to sell my 993 turbo some years ago. They'd obviously used and abused it and the very expensive carpet mats were missing along with rubber gromets and the expensive 3 piece alloys were curbed. The thing is if you do a full power take off on the 4wd cars you can wreck the transmission -which happens about 70-100 miles later. You never really know how your cars been driven. When I confronted them the mechanic (who's a mouthy rude know it all) shouted at me uber defensively as if I'd done something wrong (he has an appalling work ethic also. There a no naming and shaming policy here so ill leave it at that. Only add that ill never go and will never Have to go to those clowns in Meridien, West Midlands (part of a gas station ;-))

I don't get all this moaning about it being an add for the car dealer. Read the article for what it is, a cracking little read about three fantastic cars.

Surely, you could level the same crtisism at every article written in magazines. "That bloody article on the F430 Scuderia, that's just an advert for Ferrari. How much did they pay you?"

You either like reading about cars or you dont. Doesn't matter where they came from.

If I'd asked a dealer to sell my car on my behalf and had left it with them to do so then I'd be more than happy to see the amount of promotion they'd achieved to increase awareness and chance of sale. The pictures suggest more of a short run around some local roads - I doubt much mechanical 'unsympathy' would have been dished out or allowed. I'd also be more discreet than to post on here the first time you learn about it rather than talking to the dealer direct...

My thoughts exaclty - what fantastic advertising everybody is now discussing your very expensive niche car, which may just help it to sell. Moulton have a reputaion to keep, and i'm sure ph arnt going to drive it like jonny concrete
