RE: Lotus Exige S Type 72

Has anyone actually counted how many limited edition versions of the S2 Elise / Exige have now been offered to date? 35-40? Must be a record!
Why are people upset about Limited Edition Eliges? They're hand built in small numbers, you can have any trim you like if you're prepared to pay,
so they must cost almost nothing to bring to the market.
Good choice for such a small company, for me any car could be a lmited ed if they wanted !!
Well, perhaps it's the Marketing announcements that always sound a bit too excited for an everyday thing :-)
If they just did some subtle tweaks to the chassis setup or some part differences it would make it more significant.
Are the oil coolers new? Does the new body kit offer some aerodynamic improvements? Perhaps so but wasn't mentioned.
A little more differentiation other than a new wrapper would really be meaningful as a "limited edition" series. I'm sure they could find a few things without popping up the price.

The limited edition Exige does look lovely, as did the limited edition Elise before it, and I'd be delighted to own either.
But they do feel a bit like yesterday's dinner warmed up again.
If you want a proper JPS Lotus, you need to be a bit more discerning.
I would very much like one of these...
(And I don't mean that skanky thing in the background)

tenuous and flimsy special editions are pretty standard fayre when you've got no money to spend on npd. If it results in a few more precious sales (and it does) then it is entirely justified.
Poking fun at lotus is easy, but that marketing department has the wages of a pretty special factory to pay. Keep it up lads and lasses.

Didnt lotus get upset earlier this year after someone on SELOC (lotus forum) got his car kitted out in the livery similar (as is happens) to what Lotus have just launched?
Nope. Not as far as I'm aware anyway? There was a 2-11 done, and then a chap had an Exige done - both to their own design. As long as you pay your fee to Classic Team Lotus I don't think there's any problem. I did the same with my 2-11 - went for a Type 49 scheme (and not the ice cream van one - the pre ciggies version) and it was welcomed Why is there such a problem with a TINY company like Lotus bringing out special eds? If you look back over the years, they have done it ad nauseum throughout their existence. It might seem like they are flogging a dead donkey like was pointed out, but actually, its nothing new and does help shift a few more cars, makes a bit more money and I wouldn't hazzard to say that a fair chunk of this goes back into producing a new Esprit or something like the Evora before it was launched. Tiny companies have to take advantage of every niche, nook, cranny and opportunity they can to raise revenue and this is "the Lotus way" and has been for years. Appreciate the car for what it is guys, there will only be 20, they will be snapped up, no doubt and few more quid will be put into the pockets of the developement team to continue to produce highly innovative and class leading handling cars. I say good luck to them! Mine was a special ed and didn't feel anything different to the standard cars I have driven, yet I had a feeling and sense of being part of the Lotus "family" because a little extra was put into my car. Its all about how it makes you feel......

Okay. Lotusphiles are there any significant differences here in kit compared to other Exige 2s or 240s?
Still we should hopefully see an S3 Elise next year some time.

I think it needs more gold. From a distance it just looks black.
I'd agree with that. It needs more pinstripes. Lots more pinstripes. Then they could make the side intakes solid rather than outlined, and put a big fat number 1 in it. Not sure it would suit the curvy body particularly well but as it is it looks a bit subtle and doesn't shout out "JPS Lotus".Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
