Joe Osborne said: I've heard it's possible to get the LMP2 Zytek engine in it. 600+ bhp. Should give it a bit of a kick.
Great car for £25k however looks amazing from the back and can get a set of golf clubs in the boot! (18 holes not crazy golf) Are you sure, I know the Zytek engine fits the G50

noodleman said: reading though that brochure, it lists complete engines from 5.5k ? once you've actually added all the bits you need to add to the engine. and thats still with wet sump.. Then you need to add some sort of ecu, they list it at 800 quid for stock. Yes a bare engine may only be 1800 quid... but thats less than half the story.. Low volume cars are always going to be more expensive than something churned out in the thousands, so they dont really compare.. I think its great what LNT has managed to do with Ginetta, the company has moved on massively and the G50 and the G40 look like fantastic cars. If I wasnt so far into the Build on my Sagaris I'd be very very tempted with a G50..

That wasn't the point I was making. Merely that a duratec would not be thousands more than a zetec. You need the ancillaries with either engine.

Sorry I missunderstood, I thought it was the usual... you can build the car for a tenner, look i managed to buy an engine for 10p quote You are right in that the marginal costs between different engines are not huge. Although having said that if you add in another grand on the engine then bit more on the transmission to cope etc your 25k car quickly becomes a 30k car..

It would be weird to buy a new car just to get a better engine. And these things don't seem that cheap (conversions). For instance the Elise to Honda engine conversion (2nd hand engine & box!) costs some £9000+. Perhaps Ginetta G50 would be a better choice for good power?

Beautiful looking car, but it seems a little underpowered, it needs 6 cylinders at least imo.

As long as I can have a nice 2.0 Zetec with a little more power and as long as it's light enough (any ideas what it weighs in at?). The closer it is to a Caterfield coupe concept, the more tempted I'll be...

I don't get the obsession with the power figures that is popping up here - it's a very one dimensional measure of a car's abilities, after all, my original 115bhp engine in the Caterham was enough for it to keep up with most cars on most UK trips (including spirited drives). Something like the G40 doesn't need 200+bhp, although being a Zetec install, I'd imagine it's quite easy to upgrade.

Just a stock 2.0 Zetec on throbble botties (as I have in my Westfield), makes a healthy 165bhp, which is plenty, it's stupidly economical even when poking it and dirt cheap to replace if you pop it.

Sorry, the power obsession comment was not aimed at you Juansolo but at those who have commented it is way under-powered - yes, if it weighed 1.5tons+ like most "small" sports cars, but at under 900kg it can get away with much less power and still be an excellent drive (unless top speed defines the driver's experience).
