Just going through an insurance renewal process of getting quotes etc and this statement was in Swiftcovers T's & C's.

In the event of a windscreen replacement only claim, your No Claims Discount will not increase in the following year.

Not something I have noticed before... is it usual these days?

Ouch. I have never seen any other company do that before and have been doing it as a job for the past few years. Well worth checking the small print as you have done.

Not as bad as Quinn who treat it as a fault claim so you lose all your NCD plus its £250 excess! That is on van policies though, not sure about car.

you could probably get a new screen for not much more than that if you shopped around? And keep your NCB.

True; but it depends on the car and what type of screen it needs. Take for example, the BMW 5 series [E60] which has Heads Up Display, moisture (and light) sensor bracket, de-misting sensor, solar reflective coating... and a fitted price in region of £600.00

That doesn't sound stupidly expensive for all that lot, I'd have expected it to be more tbh.
It would be touch and go as to whether losing my 8 years NCB would cost more in that instance. - insurance on the Audi is £500, so loses the NCB and what's the premium going to be? Not that I am insured with quinn anyway.
Unless you mean the fitting alone is £600?

I was taking it easy... well known nationwide company would be starting off at around £1800 I guess.

The point is, I can understand the savings for windscreen replacement but (depending on the type of damage) there is no immediate urgency to have a screen renewed.

If however, you end up with a hole in your car, say it's a heated rear windscreen, you don't really want to be at the mercy of picking the cheapest quoter on the day.

I have Swiftcover and noticed that my renewal on 3rd Jan listed a 'no-fault claim' for my rear screen. Given that the policy was taken out in Jan 2009, it's not that new a change. Didn't notice premium rise though (although I'm at the max NCB anyway and put the insurance cost on work expenses)
