Obvious replica. Not enough Ford switchgear.
Or on the back of a recovery lorry.

If you been to Thailand, and been off the Tourist trail you gotta love car spotting out there!

I have seen everything from Murcielagos to Hillman Avengers out there and complete odditys like a Citreon CX on a 18" lift (monster truck style) and a chassis with a seat and steering wheel, looked like old Merc or Hino chassis driving about.

If you are at the back of Seekong, near the Kings Park there is a forecourt there just full of old Caddys, Corvettes, Mustangs Trans-ams, well worth a look, he also has a few Big Blocks kicking around there too.

Even the King was partial to racing Maseratis' when he was younger.

I am a member of www.bangkokclassiccar.com, which put up some great displays around Thailand and some track days too.

Going back out in May, so if you see a Black Vigo D4D with Dog shredding bullbars (no joke) and a GB sticker on the back give me a toot!

Going off at a tangent, anyone remember the old Performance Car article when they took an 8-series BMW and Calibra, parked them somewhere like Canary Wharf with the badges all hidden and asked people which car they liked the look of the best?

This Thai man has huge creative talents and should command respect from the 'Dissers'
Would you slag off a English man who has built himself a DB4 Zagato replica? Probably not.

Thats a cracking bit of work, takes alot of time, talent and patience to hand make panels whether in GRP or metal and most replica makers have at least access to a real one, I would doubt if this guy has ever even seen one!

As for all the nay sayers, here fakes are looked down on because everyone could get the real thing if they put all their resources into it, in Thailand even if every single penny earned went into the AM fund for life, theres a good chance it would never make it to the levels needed for a purchase. This guy had the talents and resources to build a car that looks very much like the car of his dreams and this is the only way he will ever get close to one. And I doubt It will be anything other than an economical GM engine in there, petrol in Thailand is generally sold out of coke bottles at the side of the road!

That calibra might be a 4x4 (5 stud hubs) Unlikely tho, prob a V6 or a hub conversion, which in Thailand is unlikely due to lack of spares.

You've got to admire the skills required to build that. Being Thai, I bet he is self taught and managed to construct the thing for 50 Bhat.

The theory of the fake....

If you know - you spot the fake and the fool driving it. If you don't know..You don't care and therefore pay no attention to the fool.

What is the point.
You forget the third type of person that does not know or care about the car but is impressed by the badge.

This is why if you have two identical jumpers and stich a badge onto one you can sell it for 2 to 3 times the price of the unbadged one.

At least you can have your screen cleaned and washer replenished, and car filled with fuel and paid for without getting out of the car.

A bit like the old days here......then self service came along, that was a good Idea wasn't it?

I've had to back the truck onto a bamboo platform over a 5ft ditch to get to some diesel that was in a 50 gallon drum with a hand pump in Cha -am a few years ago, that was interesting!

I think it doesn't look half bad! As to people questioning the legality of it, I doubt if it remains a one-off anyone will complain. IF he put it into mass production and tried to pass it off as genuine, then he'd probably be in trouble though! And even if he had the means and desire to put it into production, he could probably do it if he sold it as a replica. Look at all the Cobra/GT40/Ferrari/Lambo/356/917/McLaren, etc. replicas for sale in any given auto mag.
This is just a guy's personal project done mainly for his own enjoyment. I fail to see an issue with that.

You need smileys for comments like that to avoid your comment being taken at face value by some around here....
+1 Buy one and live with it before you start making negative comments about the car!
