That's fantastic news! I really hope that Spyker make a good go of it, and that the doom-mongers on here are totally wrong!

My folks had a 9-3, and it was a really nice machine to drive, looked smart, and had that brilliantly logical Saab interior/dash.

My old man liked it so much he replaced it with a brand new one....

...and 4 days and just 10 miles later, this happened.

"A 900 sized car with a series-hybrid arrangement driving all 4 wheels would get me to my local SAAB dealer very quickly."

Yes me too if I had the money. This might be a story of Spyker taking an enormous and vastly brave gamble to attempt to resuscitate Saab.
How about some of us (the public) being equally brave and if they create a good product - let's forego the BMW/Mercedes etc and buy it.

Best of luck to Spyka, about time we had some good news. Had a 9-3 drop top after my impreza got taken, not the same type of car but loved it for different reasons. Good luck Spyka!!!

All the best to both of them.

Always had a thing for SAAB. Neighbour had a black 900 Turbo convertible when I was a kid...

You know, it might just work, say Saab produce a quality, economical, discrete yet quietly classy vehicle that is right for the time they might pull it off, surely peoples tastes may swing from dirty great flash, ugly and fairly wasteful off roaders and thrusty saloons to something a bit more friendly yet still capable type of vehicle.

Maybe people will no longer want to look like a c*nt in a white Q7 or an angry bell end in an A4 S-line with fairy lights ?

I think a lot of people buy Audi's and BMW's but want a Saab, trouble is the 9-3 just isnt good enough, I have one and really it looks like a Saab doing its best stab at being thrusty, it is a good looking car but not a Saab, its a Vectra doing and impression of a Saab doing an impression of a BMW.

At the moment, a lot of the german stuff has a kind of 80's excess about it and is starting to grate and seem out of pace with the times, led lights, shiny bits, spoliers, bulging arches, big wheels, black leather, liquorice profile tyres, general bigness has skewed what actual premium and luxury is into uncomfortable bling and showiness, I hope Saab go their own way and meet a sea change in purchasing habits coming the other way.

I think this is good news, but it would be such a shame to see Saab disappear. Lets see if they can survive...

But, I love this:

That is fantastic!

Great news, and thanks for the gallery. I particularly like the 95 van, perhaps this is a niche they could explore, the old 9-3 estate panelled in with a low boost chain cam Vectra 2.2 diesel and all the aero body bits, sell it for the price of a Berlingo and take over the courier market, use the profits to fund a rally team.

One not insignificant issue will be the dealerships - does Spyker/Vauxhall really want to allow the Vauxhall dealerships in the UK to sell SAAB.

And I cant see a SAAB for sale at this place:- http://www.broughtons.co.uk/spyker

Fantastic news, let's just hope they go back to the innovation & individuality that made them famous.

BTW the old 2-stroke van in the image (280 YBH), used to be my dad's company car at a SAAB dealership in Manchester in the late 60's.

So we can reduce the real number of new cars sold to unique customers by at least one - their 2009 market share gets worse by the minute biglaugh

Not a bad idea but any car on that platform is going to cost a lot more to build than a Berlingo which is a biscuit tin van with windows, ok Saabs perceived quality isnt that great at the mo but that is down to interior trim, not the build of the bodysheel which is massively stuff and strong, they are well built, as good as the germans body wise but its the bits you touch inside that let things down.

Cant imagine it would do much for the brand making budget airport taxi's.

Also, Saab needs to shake off the public perception of it being a Vectra underneath, I had some tit on a night out ask me what I had and proudly let me in on this "Secret", so what, people wouldnt be so quick to slag them off if the interior felt like an Audi's as to be honest Audi's platforms havent been that great or driver focused.

Rover got killed through the public in part saying how crap they were, ok, in some cases they werent that great but the same people dont seem so eager to complain when their German chariot goes tits up, its like they dont want to break the magic or step out of line and dare say anything.

Excellent news, if only because that brand always used to stand for something individual...be nice to see it return to that!

If Saab can get back into this sort of form*:-

...then I think everyone will be happy!

* I'm talking about the 2010 equivalent, obviously!
