It really is worth watching the Top Gear video again - I had forgotten how brilliant it was. A truly epic bit of driving from Tiff.

You'd be mad to do such a thing. If I had a puma it would be heading your way though!

I've a pair of Pumas that you can have in exchange. I think Pele might actually have worn them as well. I bought them on eBay! wink

Or anywhere else if you like every trip to bring a smile to your face...

I had one of these new (98 in Blue) and I got rid of it only when my kids started complaining about space in the back. They are pretty small, especially for kids in the 6-10 range as their legs tend to be too short in thigh to bend over the squab.

Adults can squeeze in the back, but you wouldn't want to go that far - Lot more room than a 911, though smile

Im suprised I only got one bite with this one, it was a pleasant one though at least.

They are driven mainly by girls though arent they....

That would put me off massively.

I would love an old XR2 though as a plaything, they had a much more manly image.

well i'm currently sat watching mine have its cambelt changed and a new driveshaft bearing.

It's costing me £380.

I liked it up until now.....

But yeah nice to drive, sweet gearbox, okish on fuel. Hopefully i wont have to spend on it for a few months now though, as i am now without any money...

Having driven an XR2 and a Puma (of course), you're welcome to your 'manly' XR2 - fun for it's time, but not a patch on the Puma or lots of other small hatches, even at the time.

Pumas driven mostly by women? Aren't all Fiestas? wink

At last, a post-'95 Ford I might actually consider buying!
(Though I'd probably go for a Clio RSi if it had good rear arches)

What are these like for economy? A mate of mine had one years ago and it was a cracking car, punching well above its weight on the back roads. Would consider one as a daily if it was economical...

Mine used to do about 30 on average - maybe 35 on a motorway run.

Wehey, a second bite.

Agreed, fiestas are mostly driven by women, but the XR2 wasn't.

Admittedly I havent driven either. My point is that I wouldnt even entertain owning a Puma because of its girly image.

It may be the best handling most fun car in the world.

But thats just me....

My XR2 was quick and a very cool looking car (white with pepper pots) but the handling left a bit to be desired.

Puma is good i think would like a go in one

A Puma was on the shortlist when we were looking for a second car (1yrs no claims bonus) for my 18yr old daughter a couple of years ago-we looked at three and all were very rusty and generally shabby. But even the scruffiest drove well.In the end she got an MX5,which,as a bonus was cheaper to insure.

I had one of these as my first car and absolutely loved it. I must be getting old now if they are turning up as sheds.

I might go and drive one to see if they are as much fun as I remember, or would it be a bad case of rose tinted specs?

Shoddy build quality, leaky AC, dreadful brakes but super 1.7 engine, lovely gearbox, great handling, cheap to run and managed over 40mpg on a long run once! Good little cars.
