I never knew Quattro was a tuning division... I guess you learn something everyday.
I thought it was S Line for Audi.
Nope... just "S" and "RS" S-line isn't tuning its a trim level hehe

Which in itself is just a trim level.

VAG offerings get duller week by week. That jetta coupe thing was the most boring car i've herad of in a long time.

Instead of R Division, should it be the Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Division.... see what i did there.

better news than we usually get such as death to the GTI - at least someone realises that we can still enjoy cars for the time being.

S-Line is just a trim level, above Sport.

Quattro gmbh is the company that makes, amongst other things, the RS4.

I honestly don't care about this news unless it turns out one of their core values is lightness.

Confusingly, however, quattro is also the name Audi use for their 4wd system, so the quattro badge doesn't imply it's a sports tuned vehicle.

I agree with the weight thing..

If this is truly a sports focused sub-company I would be happy if the engine were standard 2.0 turbo fare, but the car was stripped bare with a roll cage, adjustable suspension stiffened chassis, sports specific dash etc..etc.. If its not this, then its just another "whack ona big turbo, 20inch wheels and charge an extra 10k" ethos.

VAG = vagina group.

That Jetta coupe was nice, not boring at all; too many hatchbacks always get the hot treatment, I would rather a saloon/coupe. Super Saloons seemed to worked many years for Subaru with the Impreza and Mitsubishi with the Evo Lancer.

Well I amnot suprised, VW and many other manufacures know how silly many people are in the UK thats is why we get ripped off too st. If mags etc dont go on about VW's as though they are better than Audi's when they are'nt. SO no suprise they pull there usual as in base model comes with not much and charge a killing on options. VW could not get away with it that bad in other countries.

I am still waiting for PH to get a drive review of the Golf R.

Sounds good, although VW really needs to look at it's pricing.

Was in local VW Dealer last night looking at a Tiguan. Asked how many Gold R's had been ordered. Zero amount. Said every potential customer who had shown an interest before the prices were anounced, have all backed out. Too expensive.

They charge about double for Bucket seats compared to the Audi S3.

This R division might convince a few people to part with a few extrea quid but without racing pedigree will petrolheads trust them? Oh well it will only be a matter of time before they are doing 'hot' versions of the Tiguan and the Touareg.
yeah maybe in 2007 they'll make a Touareg R50...

That was my thought exactly! It may be a little off topic, but why does there seem to be such a lack of RWD cars from the majority of manufacturers? Is there an obvious reason relating to: manufacturing, or safety requirements related to RWD cars etc...? Sorry if its a basic question - i"ve been an avid reviewer of PH for about a year now and know that the experience on here is likely to have some informed opinions.

I imagine RWD is more expensive as with FWD, the engine and transmission can be slotted in easily and the rear suspension separately but having to join them up with a driveshaft makes it a bit more labour intensive, i would imagine - plus you have a diff to build and service at the back.

Well if its that more expensive, then why do they do 4WD models. Surely the 4WD Golf R would be more expensive than a RWD Golf R.

The new Scirocco R would be so much better if they made it RWD, just as they should have made the Corrado RWD.

Probably not. The reactive awd system they use is really just a viscous coupling and a small diff designed to take 5 or 10% of the torque. It's probably easier to piggyback this onto the FWD design and the chassis than it is to engineer 100% torque to the back.
