You can tell people need cash right now. There are two Burns on ebay now, one NIB, the other mint. You hardly ever see them! This was the original before the Turbo came out later. So this really was the exact cross over point from old fashioned 1/8 models to the new breed.

Keeping the Britsh end up...

My Mardave Meteor, raced hard as you can see and with a paint scheme that I am struggling to explain 20+ years on.

Fitted with Demon Triple20 motor, Cobra front shocks on the rear (cos the Cobra rears were too big), electronic speed control, fully ballraced and currently sporting the original, very worn, tyres for tarmac use.

So, where are we meeting?

Tamiya made and do still make some good leisure and fun cars but for racing you had to look elsewhere eg Schumacher Traxxas or associated electronic

Tamiya do make high end cars, and have done for a while now. Their TRF series stuff is pretty good, and you can hop-up most of their other stuff to a similar standard.

There is another full-size Sand Scorcher replica - this one is in the UK and is featured in Ultra VW magazine this month. www.ultravw.com

I had a Hornet for a while and then upgraded to the Egress.

Don't see many of them around now. I should really pull it out and see if it still runs!

If you want to sell, PM me. Been looking for an Egress for a while.

Don't think I'll be selling it. I loved that car and won some club races with it.

I remember trawling Ebay for a bit looking for some spares. I needed to replace one of the rear arms as it was slightly bent. Found quite a few spares on there.

So I went into a model shop yesterday intending to buy one of these.

I wasn't prepared for the price though. The article says it's £299 including radio and batteries. It's actually £299 plus radio and batteries - the package would have been about £360.

As much as I love this and dearly want one - even I baulked at £360. After a bit of umming and ahh-ing, I left the shop empty handed. I think that's a big chunk of money for a toy!

I may, however, just need time to get my head around spending that much and go back next weekend biggrin

It is very over priced. It should be no more than £70 for the car. Just like the Hornet etc. It is after all a VERY basic old kit. They are trying it on and cashing in on the loons who spent a fortune on the old scorchers. So in comparison to a vintage one it still looks like a bargain. I'd wait a year and buy a new one on ebay for under half price.

Sorry chap, but IMHO you are way off on this one. Re-release kits such as the Sand Scorcher do command a premium for several reasons:

1. As you say, they want to milk it.
2. The kits cost a LOT more to produce than something like a Hornet. Compare parts counts, complexity of parts and the materials. I'd bet the difference is the best part of an order of magnitude.
3. As with all Tamiya re-releases, they are limited edition, there's no way these things will halve in value at any time in the future, let alone next year.

If you want one and want to wait for improved forex or such then so be it, but don't wait too long.

Well, today after much deliberation, I weakened and folded miserably against my resolve. I had to have one.

In my defence, I did sell a load of 'loft fodder' on ebay, and I managed to raise the money from selling stuff to buy one with!

Here it is reclining on the bed:

I also bought (yes, yes I know) a cool little radio controlled hele at the same time - a Syma SO32 Fiery Dragon. How great it is - dead easy to hover indoors. My excitement got the better of me and I took it into the garden. Alas, one small downer saw broken rotors frown total flying time from new - less than 10 minutes! Ah well, will have to get some spares tomorrow.

The inner child was alive and well today!

Mr Luxury-Yacht

I've got to say I'm truly jealous, mainly of the build experience you are about to have. I have clear and fond memories of building mine nearly 30 years ago.

But not at all jealous of the endless deliberation you will have over the colour scheme.

regards

Mr DeadMeat

Bought second hand For £70 in Sussex Model Centre if anyone knows it??

The supersabre was released in 1987 and I bought it in the early mid 90's

I sold it and bought a new mardave marauder in about 1997 which was old tech back then! My friend at the same time bought a traxxas Nitro Rustler which I bought off him about a year later...

I currently have a Thunder Tiger something or other. It has an ali chassis, wishbones and shocks but not sure what size engine. I have not started it for about 10 years! This thread has inspired me to dig it out my parents garage!
Great thread, still have my Super Sabre in my loft, quite temped to buy some new 7.2v batteries and dust it off...
