I've sat in both the 612 (as a passenger) and the Rapide (stationary) and the back seats are much bigger in the 612. There is considerably more headroom and kneeroom in the 612.

Rapide is still far more desireable in my eyes.

Have you sat in the back of a 612? Its a coupé not a 4 door ..what don't you get about that? ITS A COUPÉ THIS HAS 4 DOORS...you might as well compare it to an Atom...people want this because of 4 doors...4 doors..Il say it again..4 doors..room in the back..not a coupe..4 doors
Eh? Some odd quote related stuff going here, I didn't mention the 612, not sure what the relevance is. But yes it has 2 doors. Most fridges have a little shelf for a wine bottle and Lenny Henry is quite tall.

There is a big quoting screw-up going on. I think it was chelme who mentioned the 612 first.

I was quoting chelme, Lenny Henry being "quite tall" is subjective surely?

Yes its odd that in the quote under Cathalm it says 'blah blah' when in fact he made comments about fulfilling 'the brief'.

Indeed, whereas saying Lenny Henry is funny is laughable. hehe

Two Porsche panameras (one 4S and a turbo) were driven hard for 17,000kms in 30 days around australia.

Nothing broke, nothing fell off, never failed to start.

Could you imagine the rear passengers in a Rapide trying do attempt that? They would be all cramped up and bailing out at the first stop.

No aston martin could do it, they're just not up to it. I've heard of the reliability problems they have been having in this part of the world.

The Rapide is nothing but a show pony. No substance, just like the people who will buy them

How do you know? Where is the test putting the Rapide round Australia? Come back when it's a fact, not a guess.

Well unless they have changed the way its made, then i doubt it would be different, particlarly when this is just a stretched DB9.

Nice to see you guys sticking up for the UK product but you need to keep an objective perspective on things and just see it for what it is

A panamera would smoke this thing. Its better in every way.

Its quicker, would handle better, more reliable, cheaper to run, more internal space and better resale value.

One could argue that the Rapide is better looking but that is a subjective point.

The panamera is a car that could be used every day for every occasion.
Have you read EVOs back to back test this month?

Having driven both, they seem to think exactly the opposite to you, they hated the Panamera to drive.
I dont put too much faith in the UK motorong press ever since back in 86 when CAR Magazine said that the Jaguar XJ40 was the worlds best car.

We went out and bought one and it turned out to be the biggest load of rubbish ever!

Im sure they will say the same about the new upcoming XJ too

How many people are going to go bush in an Aston Martin? It will do 5k nice easy motorway and city miles every year without any issues. Take it to the outback and yeah it will probably sh!t its self..but it's irrelevant to the people who buy them

I'm not a fan of stretching beauty and hoping it will work in a new market...and the Rapide doesn't chnage my view, that it doesn't work...howver I cannot wait to see one in the flesh and hopefully chnage my mind.

I love Porsches....however I think the Cayenne is an abomination aesthetically, I thought the Panamera was too....then I saw one on the road....sadly it didn't change my mind... totally... but it does have massive presence. It clearly has far too much 911 DNA in it..laziness in the extreme BUT if you're a real car enthusiast you won't confuse the two when seen driving around...It looks mean without looking angry...IMO

Porsche should of just made a new 928, with more room in the rear.

yep. Absolutely....

I keep asking myself if I'll live long enough to see Porsche create a new design language...I'm convinced the next model range dubbed '356' will look like a mini Boxster frown

"So what do think? Should we buy a Panamera or a Rapide?"
"Why would you want anything other than a ute in the Australian outback?"

Its only a matter of time before both Porsche and Aston have a model that appeals to the Aussie Farmer...

We all know what they'll look like....

What a bizarrely irrelevant post.

All the Panamera needs is a flat back option to make it a ute, then you could buy one to drive around the outback.

In next week's edition!

Australian Car tests a Gallardo on an off-road mountain course to see if the 4x4 system really is all it's cracked up to be - plus a test of the Lotus Elise on a family camping holiday.
