OMG Another Mini, Another Audi that has a look alike front and back. Chief designer Well Chief I will make all my cars look the same but just in different sizes. These german car designs are soooooooo boring zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz becuase of that fact.
Please the public give them a kick in the bum and ask for cars that look different to is big or little brother. Corperate image is for corperations not for indervidual people that the majority of PRIVATE owners are.
JEEZZZZ AUDI AND VW U are supposed to have the tech now get an idea of inderviduality for different models. German cars used to be boring looks wise, now because of there look alike designs they are in danger of going back to the boring.

Audi does have some nice designed cars. But here they took the recipe too far: Take some "ideal" proportions and add the "taste of the year" Audi grill and lights. Small cars could be quite a bit more cheeky than that. And why to take design clues from an A8 top of a range model unmodified to the smallest car?
The customer groups are different, the proportions are different, the utilisation will be different. Why having one set of design features and mold them on to the entire model range. When they are through they come up with the next set of gimmicks and do the same thing all over again.
Too predictable and boring for professional designers, I think. The R8 shows Audi can be very creative and surprising. Somehow they failed here with the A1, IMO. agree with every word except the somehow You are right! I take back the word 'somehow'.

This one has a grill... that looks like the A8 A LINE :shock: that marks it as an audi. led's in the brake lights! get that not bulbs but red led's (you know like we had in the 80's) but this car is different from all other audi's because this time the LINE you know that audi line he talks so fondly about actually.. Now brace yourself... Brace... It goes across the boot! Thank you audi for bringing us a car with a brand new boot lid  They release a "new" product and the only thing they have to say about it is it has a new boot.

Audi did the same but streached the look to fit 11 cars in their range. I have a similar issue with porsche. In my oppinion they have had about 15 years of making the same car. both the aston and the porsche are very pretty cars (i'm not going to claim the A5 is not a pretty car) the problem is the sheer monotony.

The A2 is regarded as an excellent car, but the high price (all that weight saving aluminium) and dubious slyling let it down! they where very much ahead of their time and seem to be holding their value very well now as they have become quite sort after!

I have known 2 people who bought them. The first got rid of it after 6 months saying that it was a mistake. The second owned it for the entire period of the company lease and reffered to it as "the worst car I have ever spent money on" hut apparently his wife liked it

Not changing the look of a popular car is hard to object to. Most companies will attempt to hold onto what works the problem is thinking this works so let's make everything else look like it. I do not object to the 911 remaining in the 911 shape. I do object to posrsche not attempting to style the boxter etc and just trying to make them carbon copies of the 911 there has been some variety in their fr cars but that went along with the 968.

I know a few people who have been very happy with the car! though from a PH perspective I guess its not going to set your heart racing!

Aside from the stupid aluminium detailing on the side profile of the roof, it's a nice, sensible looking small car. We don't know if it's going to be boring to drive yet, and it'll be a shame if it is, but that probably won't deter most customers. A solidly built small car with a 1.6 diesel (manual of course), let's say black leather trim with maybe a few aluminum highlights inside (but not on the roof) to lighten up a bit, nice rich red paint and some sensible sized alloys would make a smart commuter I'd say. Not every small car has to be cute or sporty. Not every conservatively styled car needs to mid-sized or bigger.
I went from driving a Volvo 850 CD on my own each day about an hour to work and back, and it was just me and the radio. Loved the comfort, solid built and conservative non-flashy styling. Not so much the fact that it was a bit over the top as personal transport with all that wasted space. I'd imagine it's the same if it's just you and your A4. Now I have a 2009 Fiesta 1.6, which is more fun to drive, more sensible, more fuel efficient etc etc etc - but styled a bit too racily and no where near as comfortable as the Volvo. So I'm your target market - I don't want a posey Mini, tallboy A-Class or contrived 1-series. Just get rid of that crap roof, start it under 30k Australian and I'll have a look in 3 years.
I remember when BMWs were described as 'same Bavarian Sausage, different lengths'. I'm not suggesting Audi can match the elegance of 90's BMW's, but nor am I concerned about some coherency in the range.
In other words, I like it.
