New Skoda Octavia vRS 2.0 TDI CR - should I buy one?
Discussion
True. My Leon has had one replaced earlier last year. I have had the DPF light on quite a few times and the fix is driving it in 3rd upto 50mph to encourage the burn off.
I have done 95k in 3 years too so not exactly small city miles! My car is covered by warranty so it's never bothered me and I plan to buy a new vRS CR DSG in the summer

I popped into my local dealer this week to enquire. He said that the DPF on the diesel clogs up if the car is used mainly for short runs.. and is expesive to replace..
Is this bs so he can push petrol cars to make a bigger margin, or some genuine advice?
why would you buy a diesel if you didn't do the miles? All diesels have issues if you don't give them a decent run regularly. Yes, it is a regularly encountered situation with the DPF, but if it happens you prob bought the wrong car.Is this bs so he can push petrol cars to make a bigger margin, or some genuine advice?

I will be using mine for a 10 miles commute to work mainly but with a once a week 40 miles fast road/motorway blast plus the odd 250 motorway trip. I wonder what they would define as a short run? My car will be covered by the warranty, so that's piece of mind.Is this bs so he can push petrol cars to make a bigger margin, or some genuine advice?

It isn't the distance that is the issue but sitting in traffic at low revs.

So at what mileage would you be better off buying a diesel? 15k? 20k?Just wondering, as I only do about 20k in my company diesel at the moment, and an Octavia Vrs or Superb are top of my list for replacements.
Picked my new VRS petrol hatchback up 2nd of March and have just managed the 1st 1000 miles.
I really like it. It was a good choice and loads of people who have seen and ridden in it have been very impressed, including my boss who's getting a Gallardo next and said he'd have one of these as a run about no problem.
Handling is good, much better than the focus it replaced, nice gear change and positive steering, stops well. Could use some more power though and economy was a little disapointing (38 ish on a run). I'm prepared to give it more time though prior to the inevitable re-map.
Very comfortable and pretty quiet. Went for the leather interior and that looks brilliant and in fact the whole interior is well made. A few of the little cubby holes and a bit fimsey but it's not a major concern. Touch screen multi-disk CD player sounds good but is a little slow in operation, changing disks.
Space is fab 2 adults and a baby in the back. Boot swallowed everything for a long weekend away including the bugaboo frame, crib, several rucksack sized bags a large suitcase and a suit carrier and still had space for more. Impressive.
No problems so far.

A chap I work with gets 53 mpg on a long run (170 DPF and remapped to 205bhp+) has had, and I've seen proof, of 58 mpg on a 40/50 mph mixed speed limit.
From the petrol car? Maybe bumbling along, but I had the older car for 6 years and the best I EVER saw on a run was 42 MPG and that was a pretty steady 50ish on the Mway for about 60 miles. I can't imagine the new car is that much better...Normal MPG was about 30-32...
Ah - I see the DPF is the diesel, I can believe that, but it's not the Petrol car

38 is disappointing from a 2 litre petrol turbo? You're not trying hard enough M.
Anthracite petrol DSG vRS hatch ordered.
Started off wanting the above, then thought about an oil burner with/without DSG - but it felt too nose heavy on a test drive, so back to plan A. No worries about the missus filling up with the wrong fuel this way either.
This is a rational rather than emotional purchase. In an ideal world I would have gone for a Scirocco but I can't justify two impractical cars & the VFM offered by Skoda just can't be ignored (same spec 5 door Golf GTi lists at nearly 10k more!).
Now for a long wait until delivery.
