I tried to buy one. Went in and left salesman in no doubt I was ready to buy. Absolutely no deal offered at all. Derisory p/x and not a penny discount. That, combined with the barmy decision not to offer a MFSW unless you buy the DSG, sealed it. I really wanted one. That salesman put me off owning the brand completely. (Still like them though)
Perhaps you weren't as clear as you thought? What's MFSW and DSG mean?M.
DSG is the fast autobox
There are some standard cars available now in the UK, I was offered a standard Candy White TDi vRS, with no options for almost immediate delivery - 20% discount. If I buy it will a factory order, with options, Delivery in about 8-12 weeks still with 20% discount. Have been emailing loads of dealers directly with what I want. The one who will get my business is 125 miles from me and gets a good review on Briskoda.net.
Would consider the petrol but fuel economy is important to me.

Mine come through Simpson Skoda of Colne who sell lots so were most competative at the time.Would consider the petrol but fuel economy is important to me.

They're not really any bigger than a Golf where it matters though, are they...
The boot is (because the Golf doesn't have one), but otherwise they're the same between the wheels as a Golf...
Not correct. The boot is (because the Golf doesn't have one), but otherwise they're the same between the wheels as a Golf...
I have just swapped (last week) my Mk5 Golf GTI after 3 years and 90k miles for a new Octavia Vrs 2.0TSI estate. The skoda has a lot more rear legroom than the golf. Boot is massive also..
IMO there's nothing that can touch a vrs for the money. My car came in at a little over £18k new - spec an audi a4 avant to the same level and its £32k, really!
my spec:
candy white, anthracite wheels (not a factory/dealer option but done by the dealer's bodyshop prior to delivery).
rear parking bleepers
heated seats
curtain airbags
mdi (ipod interface)
maxidod (bigger multifunction display in the instrument panel)
sunset glass (privacy/dark glass for rear passengers)
I also have the skoda accessory "lowered suspension" which is a re-boxed set of Eibach pro springs with a skoda part number, fitted with some Koni FSD dampers.
Comes as standard with 18" wheels, cruise, half leather and a bunch of other stuff that is an option on other similar vag products.
I'm not a fan of diesel performance cars, so its a petrol 2.0 turbo for me thank you very much. Same engine as i had in the golf gti and very tunable (if that's your thing).

Superb cars and great value. However, don't buy a white one! There is one around here and it looks a bit cheap next to the black or race blue ones I've seen at the dealerships.
White is my colour of choice, each to their own I suppose! Me and two mates used a company Skoda Octavia vRS TDI DPF in race blue to drive to Rome for the Champions League Final in May last year. It performed brilliantly the whole way there, didn't put a foot wrong and averaged 47mpg. I rate them very highly.

What sort of prices are we talking about here?
£16k, brand new, OTR for the petrol version?

I've got a vRS PD estate and love it. Having driven Merc's for years, I actually prefer the Scud - it has more character. Not to mention better economy, performance and handling. Compared to the current A4 estate, the boot is a lot bigger and half the trim is the same. I might add that the sat-nav in my machine is utterly rubbish, and it came with factory fit Wan-Li's which didn't do much for the car.... It's been great in the snow though.
Get one - I like the fact that I can drive 25,000 miles a year in it and still not feel bad about the depreciation, as it was so inexpensive to begin with!
Only downside - still haven't worked out a witty repost to the "So, what car do you drive then?" question.

I think the only 'witty repost' to people who think Skoda jokes are still funny is 'Nob!'. It's on the same level...M.
PS Thanks to the earlier clarification on the acronyms

Making up my mind tomorrow, so will place an order over the phone if I decide to proceed. It will be a vRS TD CR in Candy White with Maxidot, rain sensor/auto wipers, rear park assist, full size spare wheel and Mobile Device Interface - total price is £16700 with the options. There is also a subsidised finance rate at 7.6% APR on a PCP, all in all very affordable and it holds its value well too - thanks to the generous discounts!
As has been said, there is nothing out there that equals it for value for money for a decent, reliable, good looking new car.

£550 to supply and fit the touchscreen 'Colombus' satnav which costs £1500 from Skoda. I'd get this even if its just for the built in hard drive capability.
