How did you get on with the test drive?
I should be picking it up towards the end of next week!

I really felt comfortable in the car, I always thought my Focus had a good solid feel to it but this was even better - quiet inside, excellent brakes, comfortable seat, I was a bit shocked when I looked down at the speedo at one point and realised the speed I was doing.

Unfortunately the dealer didn't check the fuel level before we set off and a glance at the maxidot display during the test drive showed zero range left in the tank so we headed back to the dealer.

When I was in the showroom though I spotted a Fabia VRS estate in red, already registered by the dealer on a 60plate but it had only done 25 miles. It really took my fancy but I wasn't able to test drive it that day so I arranged to go in again a few days later. I took their green Fabia vrs hatchback out for a test drive (it was parked nearer the front of the showroom) and although it felt quite spacious I was disappointed by a) The engine noise that could be heard in the cabin and b) the seat - felt more like I was sitting 'on' it rather than 'in' it.

So I agreed to proceed with the purchase of the Octavia on Wed 19th. Need to wait until the DVLA swap over my plate so it should be middle to end of next week when I pick it up. It's a white DSG hatchback with full leather and bluetooth, and the dealer is fitting the rear parking sensors for me too.

Can't wait!

Looks like at the moment, the hidden gems in the used car market are Octavia VRS's and Mazda 6 MPS's. Octavia very interesting considering the estate option, and the speed available. Anyone run a remapped one, what is it like and can the chassis handle the power?

There are lots of petrols running 300+ and as the Diesel runs closer to 190 as standard than the published 168bhp its easy to see just over 200 with just a remap, let alone a DPF removal, exhaust, air filter etc etc. If some people can get 270 out of the 1.9TDI then its easily done on the 2.0TDI

The remap does wonders for the car and engine, some people even seeing a better mpg to boot. Also because of the likes of the S3 and R32 a bigger brake conversion is easily acheived as well to cope with the added speed.

Mine is a July 2010 car, so it has already covered just over 4K miles. It's a petrol with the DSG gearbox and the original owner specced the additional bluetooth module and full leather interior. Dealer was asking £17,999 for it. I traded in my current car against it though and I was happy with the deal I got.

The maxidot display (the bit inbetween the rev counter and the speedo that acts as a digital trip computer as well as a display for the mobile phone interface) comes as standard as well as the multi-fuction steering wheel. It's got heated mirrors, heated seats, 6-CD in-dash head unit, dual zone climate control etc as standard as well. The dealer retro-fitted the rear parking distance sensors too (all colour-coded) before I collected the car and the MDI (Media Device Interface - to allow iPod connectivity with the stereo) is being fitted tomorrow too.

Skoda are, I believe, doing a vat-free deal on petrol octavias at the moment, although I have heard the waiting list for a new car is around 4 months. Drive The Deal appear to be a popular choice for new orders.

Hi mate - seen your post over on briskoda re: the badges/de-wiper.

Aye getting on fine with it, done a few mods with more to come (fitted my colour-coded grille surround with the honeycomb insert on Saturday there). Getting some Weitec coilovers on it this saturday. Not really loving the fuel economy but then I knew it wouldn't be great before I got the car so nothing unexpected there!

Really liking the DSG box though, apart from the tiny delay when pulling away - makes decisions on whether to pull away at roundabouts a bit more difficult!

Mine's having a new rear screen tomorrow as there is a small bit of rubber coming away from the top of the screen. The glass plug i've ordered should arrive tomorrow as well.

I've changed my white surround for a black one. will post a pic when its done.

Spent a couple of hours tonight detailing my alloys. They bloomin needed it. Just need to polish, clay, seal and wax them now. Might try and get some 303 for them though.

DSG feels great, i wasn't sure what it would be like on a stop start journey though.
