Did you see that black Sprintex one up on thre Classifieds a while back? That's a rare thing. I spoke to a guy a fair few years back at a local filling station who had one very similar - came from up North ( somewhere in lancs ). Wondering if it was the same car?

I love threads about anything XR4i, it give me an excuse to show some pics of mine.
A late 83 registered, 84 mdl yr,ex FMC car in nimbus grey with every conceivable extra in the brochure biggrin I have owned it since 1984,which according to the XROC is the second longest known ownership. Its only done 84000 miles, its nick name is the beastbiggrin It is currently off the road under cover in my garage were it will stay for another few years before a minor restoration.
Very nice - heated seats?
Thanks........Option for 83 mdl year only nerd
Ah, wasn't sure whether yours might have been an overlap being a late 83 registered one smile

Aircon was the year after yours wasn't it
Yep 1985 mdl year 4i`s are pretty rare now, Air con option, deleted red interior stripping and a lot darker exterior red stripping, rear 1/4 windows didn`t have "XR4" etched in them, rumors of a few with ABS as well.

Have you still got your original steering wheel and alloys stashed away?

This thread has me counting my pennies and doing serious man maths to see if I should put a bid in on the bonkers V8 turbo 4i I mentioned earlier;

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

I'm remembering how fun my turbo-ed 4i was and I imagine adding 2 more cylinders and doubling the power can only be a good thing.

I had a very rare 'C' plate, August '85, nimbus grey XR4i, for 13 years up until last year. My model belonged to a Motorsport director when new & was specced with all the toys, sunroof, p/steering, e/windows, air-con, heated seats & the very rare ABS! Also had the 15", 7 spoke RS alloys, similar to Capri brooklands, from new. Will dig out some photos & post up! biggrin

Steering wheel was swopped for a Cosworth item in 1987, i modified it to have my prefared option of horn on the end on the column stork, by buying a stork and horn centre from a 2.0iS which used a plastic version of the the leather Cosworth steering wheel. The gear knob is also a modified Cosworth part, the original "gate" markings were removed by drilling the centre and levering it out and again a 2.0iS gear knob was pulled apart. My car, when i bought it, came on a set of very rare 6x15 RS1600i type alloys with 205/50 NCTs, i had a blow out back in 1990 iirc, and wrote one the wheels off, it is impossible to get them now, i bought the wheels that you see in the pictures, instead, i do prefare the 1600i type, and i have bought a couple of MK3 RS Turbo wheels which will need modifing at some point, so it will go back on them at some point.
So to answer your question, i have never had 14" pepper pots, and my steering wheel and gear knob were sold decades ago laugh
Other slight mods, the ribbed rear number plate panel from a 85 mdl,a ECU blanking plate to cover the top storage tray, above the glove box, removal of the black trim around the door, a mistake now looking back? And Spax shocks and springs which lower the car by 25mm, which is just right imo. It still has the original tool kit, first aid kit, built into the rear parcel shelf, and the ECU 1 stereo, as it was called still works. thumbup I some times wonder what it is worth with the spec, the history/ownership lenth, not that it will ever leave my family, fortunatly, my son is also a petrolhead and he will take it over when i snuff it biggrin

Mate of a mate had one, he bought it brand new.

Went camping in it to North Wales and always remember going flat out at an indicated 130mph on the M56 with an XJ6 on our tail.

It was very quiet at that speed and we were loaded up with 4 people and a shed load of camping gear.

Very impressive.

Those are the ones without the lockable caps (like you have now )? - they're quite rare in 6x15

It's a sin I'm afraid. I would have taken it off your hands, it least it would have still been in tact and not dead.

Slightly off topic, but as we are talking early eighties fast Fords, does anybody remember the Granada 2.8 injection? Not the fairly common Ghia X version, the de-chromed one with Recaros and white Ghia style alloys? I would love to see one of those now. Most if not all were manual too if I remember correctly.
