Like most cars, it is going to be colour dependant, the orange press car wasn't the best imo, paint it similar to BMW's Carbon Black with dark grey wheels (like the last race car picture) and it would look great.
You would expect it to beat the 458 in the performance figures, considering this is still being developed while the 458 is already out, giving them the perfect chance to show the Italians how it is done!

Love it, want one, so much. A true PH car IMO, a british rival to porsche. Ferarris are too fragile, lambos too gawdy, this is a super-car that IMO will be reliable, useable and you won't look like a spanner driving one.

I REALLY want to like this car - I have "registered my interest" with McLaren - but I am afraid that on face value I have to say I think they may have missed the mark on the aesthetic and aural fronts.
I have it on good authority that the car was originally conceptualised as a N.A. V10 - which would have been much more in keeping with the McLaren ethos IMHO.
The styling is, I hope, a grower, but I fear that by the time it is eventually "on the road" it is in danger of looking terribly dated and being out-engineered by Lambo and Dancing Donkey Ltd - both of whom are moving the game on at an ever increasing pace.

omg i'll have that one please in black with black wheels. it looks a bit dated and doesnt shout out or look totally stunning but I quite like that in that it looks like a car you could happily have for a lifetime not just as a fashion.

I think some may misunderstand the philosophy behind this. It isn't gaudy and extrovert in design like a Lamborghini, but then my local butcher Trev "chops galore" Davis knows a similar amount about racing as Lamborghini do.Lambos and other nutter cars are absolutely wonderful but Mclaren isn't playing the same game.
Mclaren isn't aiming for the crazy looking show off car, they are building a car with performance only in mind. It looks like that because thats the best shape for the task at hand. They want the car not to be the most outrageous, just the fastest and the best. I think their approach reminds me of Nissans on the GTR, look how that turned out. This is a Mclaren, It's serious, it's coming and it's going to show the world the UK still has its nuts.
I'm going to plagiarise James May on an Aston review here cos I just love this quote and apply it to Mclaren:
Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, they are like the loud blokes in the pub standing at the bar, making a lot of fuss, looking for attention, giving it all the yap. Mclaren is the quiet bloke in the corner with his pint of best and the crossword. minding his own business...
Then one day he decides he's had enough. He puts down the crossword, downs his pint, get's up, offers them all outside...
and gives them all DAMN GOOD THRASHING!

and gives them all DAMN GOOD THRASHING! Good point and totally agree. Its very easy for Supercar manufactures to produce over the top cars which look like the've come out from the latest McDonalds Happy Meal. (Just look at the Latest take on the Enzo by Gemballa) Mclaren have taken a different route and kept it functional. I still feel that in a world where Car Designers are a dime a dozen, they could have produced a more contemporary design (This thing would barely have looked modern as a facelift model for the F1 some 15 years ago) Any news on where or what the engine is sourced from? Is it an Ilmor?

Anyone spotted the flaps (or whatever they are) behind the cockpit at 3.06?
Vents that rise at speed perhaps?

I'm sorry, but seeing this made me weak at the knees! Personally I love the 12C. It may not be as flamboyant as the 458 or LP560, but I'm rather confident that it will be an engineering masterpiece that will put show the Italians just how it's done. I'm very excited about it (from a British petrol head point of view) and I certainly wouldn't mind handing my keys in for one.

Whilst the Ferrari 458 excites me the most, anyone who wanted a true supercar experience but not to have "w ker" shouted at them on a regular basis would probably find exactly what they're looking for in the McLaren, especially if they get one that's painted in a subtle colour. I might have missed the answer somewhere, but will it be available with a manual 'box?

Much prefer the look of the new McLaren to the Ferrari 458.
I know where my lottery money would be spunked first.

Isn't the plan for them to build three cars with this being the mid ranged one? How can final tweaks put the release date a year away when just a few months ago all we had was cgi pics? I saw one at the services under a cover on a car trailer a few months ago, when i asked the guy what it was he said with a big 'just a chassis'. Proportions looked awesome.

My hope is that this car will have all round ability.

Easy to drive? Chassis inspires confidence within 100m? Comfy GT that turns into a sportster at the flick of a switch? Sounds like a Cayman with PASM/Sport Chrono. And that doesn't sound like an Impreza, either!
