RE: Rolls-Royce Ghost - First Drive
Discussion
Well I'd have one. Looks like the best Royce to me since the Camargue (yes, I do like it), and before that we're going back to the Alpine Eagle, before they owned Bentley, when they were rivals and fancied winning a few rallies, when they made a car with such overt, yet subtle, driving appeal.
This is the sort of car that should replace the Bristol Blenheim and make a fitting partner to the Fighter.

A friend of mine took delivery of his new ghost on new year's eve and it was all licensed and insured and ready to on new year's day.
Given the weather he's not been using it much. But I have been lucky enough to go out for a drive (as a passenger anyway) in it.
I didn't think I'd like it as much as a did. It's incredibly 'solid' and the ride....well you just don't feel the road really. Also, it doesn't half shift. But you don't feel like you're doing 0-60 in 4.7 secs (or whatever it is). There's no drama. It just makes progess.
Yes, there's the i-drive gubbins inside which doesn't seem to fit or 'suit' such a car. But if you're familiar with new/modern cars, I have to say it doesn't feel out of place.
It's a very comfortable place to be. I've always thought of such cars (inc Bentley's etc) as road-going yachts and this car seemed to cement my thoughts.

FANTASTIC CAR !!!!!!
And a brilliant write up. Humorous and very suitable, IMO.
But hey. Sublime style and dress code to ride a Rolls, Chris!
It's a Rolls Royce, not a Kenworth, Peterbuilt or Mack. Or did you assume the Rolls drives like one?
I've had words with my valet... And a brilliant write up. Humorous and very suitable, IMO.

Why are they trying so hard to make it look like a rival Volkswagen with that chrome bit at the front?
However good this car is, it looks dross and destined to join the Conti GT in the slightly vulgar excess category.

Now that is a genuine criticism about the radiator. If it did have it in the traditional style it carried for many years,it would have got a 10 from me.

Look .... I have always loved the idea that Rolls Royce exist, and that they're British (well nearly nowadays ... but you know what I mean) ...... and I absolutely ADORE the Phantom ... because it has massive road prescence (like a RR should) and is hugely different from any other saloon car (like a RR should be) .... take a breath ...
BUT ..... the Ghost is NOT a real Roller ..... because it hasn't got a proper RR radiator shell!!!
This car looks like one of those kitsch japenese replicars .... at least from the front.
A Rolls Royce without its world famous (universe famous?) radiator shell is a bit like a Ferrari with steel wheels , or a Mini with a boot. It just doesn't work. On the front of this new car the "RR grille" is like an afterthought. The might just as well have called it a BMW 7 series "LUX" or something.
BMW should be ashamed that they have damaged the heritage of one of our motoring jewels so soon after taking custody.
There ...... I feel better now. I think I'd better go an lie down.

A man with a user-name of Escort Si-130 calls me a moron. I love the irony.LuS1fer said:
