The back end of the car looks terrible. Reminds me of some dodgy Korean exec car. Those rear lights are rubbish I think.
Shocked to see that it weighs 2.3/4 tons. Is that what these cars are nowadays?

Lovely interior and obviously a very competent car. Can't help but wonder what the press reaction is like outside the UK? We are all biaised of course! Given the choice, I'd rather have an A8 for the simple reason that you spend most of your time in the driver's seat, and the new A8 has a much nicer interior. Drove a new Rangerover the other day with those fancy virtual instrument dials and didn't like it very much.

I really, really want to like this car. But I'm struggling with the styling still....
Look forward to seeing one in the flesh, hopefully it will look better. Although not keen on those rear lights and the interior is so, hum well German looking!
trust me- looks much nicer in the flesh. I initially didn't like the pictures of it but after having seen it on the road I think it looks like a nicer design than the equivilant BMW.Look forward to seeing one in the flesh, hopefully it will look better. I will reserve judgment till I see it in the metal. I remember not warming to the XF that much till I got to see my first one just prior to launch at the Auto sport show, god how beautiful it looked in dark blue. I had just took delivery of my A5 if it had been out sooner I think I would have been tempted towards the XF its cheaper to

I'm still not sure about the styling. It looks awkward in pictures but I have no reason to disbelieve the people who say it looks much better in the flesh. Nice to hear that it's a genuinely good car, though.
I saw it in the flesh at the Brands Hatch trackday and it didn't look any better. Mind you it was a light brown colour and parked next to a dark blue XFR, so perhaps it's no wonder. It's smaller sister is the Cinderalla, this car has failed to get it's foot into the glass slipper.Andy
First off, I'm probably never going to be in the market for an XJ so my opinion doesn't count (before someone else says it), but I really like the look of the XJ.
The XF has always looked a bit Lexus for me, no matter how good it is, but the XJ avoids this.
On the other hand, watching the video I did think Volvo once or twice...
Nice car, I'd probably look at one of these first if I was in the market for a big Lexus, 7 series or S Class.

PS Though to be fair the interior is great, and that's where you spend most of your time.
Dunno, maybe I'm not moving with the times. But the pic in this article shows a sea of gray IMO.And take a look at the hidous steering wheel, looks like something from FisherPrice!
I like my wood and leather!

It's nice, but the rear is going to be a divider of opinion. If I was spending 100k, I'd look at a 760Li. The engine choice is also somewhat limited, although this seems to be a trend with Jag.
We are talking about the rear of the new XJ when the *whole* of the 7 series is up for an "ugly" award?Im staggered that anybody can even think of whinging about the Jags looks compared to the latest 7series, S class and A8. I will grant that it isnt the original XJ6 shape pretty, but it is in a different league to whats on offer from Germany in terms of style!
I tell you: NOTHING !
... and I love the new XJ.
THIS - is the new Jaguar!
Cool Jaguar ads anyway, look in "youtube". They have a brilliant ad-agency to transport the 'Jaguar-feeling', IMO.
...and the new XJ absolutely lives up to it. Great work, Jaguar!

Well I can't afford a Quattroporte and for me, in that sector, this is the next best thing, though it would probably have to be the 3.0d in my price range.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's a fantastic job and a brave move from tradition. (That coming from someone who generally think the classics are far better than the modern equivalents)
