pointless, horrid, not nice, waste of money and time....

This isn't too bad, although I prefer shiny. But its like this for a purpose and is a specialist car. Not just some hunk of uninteresting junk.

This is cool.

Not sure it would work too well on the TVR.

Sorry, but that poor poor jag just looks old tired and beat up frown.

Fair enough on an old golf/bm etc etc... but when this could be made so nice! why ruin it!?

I can't find them, but somewhere on PH (possibly the early 'Supercars Spotted, some rarities' threads) there's a picture of a very well used and abused early 911 languishing in London.

It looks fantastic largely because it looks naturally dilapidated unlike the original two examples on this thread.

wink
That's the one!

I have seen a rat look E28 (I think) 5 series with a black bonnet and roof rack, that had a certain charm.
You have indeed. Though "Rusty" is now dead! Running that low for that long killed the shell.

Before

After

even came with a super cool trailer

Full details at http://www.stanceworks.com/?p=5

The last look was of a old USAF fighter. Which was my personal fav.

http://vimeo.com/9245342 for the video epilogue.

As for the Audi and Golf. The Audi works as it's not 100% st. The Gold just looks 100% st. But it could be saved if they fitted some super bling BBS Rs wheels polished to death.
Although i like all iterations of that 5 series i prefer the original (black) iteration!

Just for comedy, this stuff makes me want to get the panels on my smart wrapped to look like they are rusted to hell hehe . That'll learn em.
Somebody had the same idea as me, and entered it into a 'Style Your Smart' competition. Joint 3rd place too smile . http://www.smart-design-contest.com/jury-prizes-co...

That Audi and Golf just look rubbish to me. I think rat only works if it's a) an interesting car in the first place and b) as mentioned by someone already, it doesn't look like it's trying to be rat, it just is.

Someone on PH has got a fantastic looking ratty old pickup that fits the bill perfectly, but I can't find it anywhere now frown
Perhaps even the photos of it rusted away
Do you mean mine?

I think I have seen you out on the road in that, but didn't realise you were a PHer! I nearly crashed when driving past you - the truck looks *amazing*!! Would love to get one, but a quick peek on eBay shows none, and the 50s trucks command a fair whack so I would imagine a 40's would be even more!

Keep up the good work!

Some are cool, others mostly the water cooled VAG scene types are just utter fking st, a bit of 60s period bolt on tat on a 90s VW kick some of the panels in, add the obligiatory "vw stickers" like the 76 etc put white walls on it which look hard ghey on anything that isn't of period style that would used white walls, it's not style it's just fking up paint and body work.

a car that has lost its paint and been sun baked in Cali which has genuine naturally made patina is proper rat look, throwing paint stripper over a mk3 golf is just y.

Rat look or pile of st?

It's a thin line at best, personally I've not seen one picture yet that has made me think anything other than 'What a pile of st!'

On the other hand, I'm now kicking myself thinking of all the time and money I've wasted on cleaning and maintaining all the cars I've owend over the years laugh
