i like them, good looking, extremely well made beautiful finish. handling is very much on the "safe" side but they can misbehave in the wet with esp turned off.

I think the straight line speed, the styling, the solidity and the grip sold the TT to me (I was looking to buy a Boxster). I do still like the boxster but hate the interior of the earlier cars. The styling tweeks on later Boxsters also made them a nice looking beast.

I did feel soon after buying the TT that steering feedback and handling through tight bends at speed were somewhat lack lustre and that was really highlighted when following a Mitsu Evo - I was as quick (slightly quicker) on the straight but that evo sure could handle well around bends!

The modfications to the TT transform it but it would still not be as able as the Evo was for handling.

The boring soundtrack mentioned by havoc is easily resolved the first time you need a new exhaust, just buy a blueflame non-rsonated cat back and save yourself some money into the bargain and have a lovely sounding burble smile

For me it was the look of the thing (and I appreciate that's entirely subjective).

Yes, it was original, but I always hated the way you couldn't tell which way it was going...

It's a Golf under the shell, that's not a bad thing, but not the most exciting.

Oh and I'm running Pirelli P6000 that were on the car when I got it.
The TT must be truely remarkable then or you really were driving like the Queen's chauffeur, as P6000's are truely the most god awful tyre on the planet eek

Its not a bad car, and very good looking to many. We had a 225 Coupe from new (W - 2000) to 66k (2006). It goes OK. Needs an aftermarket back box to sound any good. Handling is OK but feedback is lacking. We now have a MKV Golf GTI - the Golf is much more fun to punt along with a lot more feedback from the newer chassis. I can see why journos moaned about the TT (and the S3 of the same era), but IMO they are still great cars. The 225 comes pretty loaded with kit too.

I had one of the first TT Roadsters which I imported and therefore got it for a great price. There was nothing like it on the road and I was frequently stopped by people asking about it. I sold it after a couple of years and got not far off the price I paid for it. I have very fond memories of the car, despite it not being the best handling car out there, although the quattro system was very forgiving.

Not only is that patently unfunny, but you have fked up the spelling and punctuation too.

You should stick in 1990. Your humour might work there.

My sis has one - I like it - it is a nice blue convertible 225 light tan leather, it looks stunning and the feel good factor when driving is hard to beat,
It is safe and surefooted.
yes it does understeer slightly, yes it is hard to get the back out....but you just adjust your driving accordingly

As with any car if you like it who cares what anyone thinks!

Hairdressers were not not driving Audi TT's back in 1990. wink

I had mine for 4 months before I realised I hated it.

The Chimaera was what I was really after.

I was never fond of the mk1 TT, however my mother owned one and she used hers everyday, took my 2 year old cousin in it whilst having passengers in the back, and had the boot full of junk.

Therefore on that front, its already miles better than the Elise's and Boxster's its compared with.

Its just usually all us petrolheads care about is oversteer and lap times biglaugh

No need to be abusive. I was just joking around.

Don't compare the Audi TT mk1 with a Boxter. They are completely different cars. Try putting a mountain bike in a Boxter. Don't listen to Jeremy Clarkson he exaggerates the cliched view for comic effect. he TT is a great practical real world GT car that will outlast a Mazda RX8. Fantastic grip in wet weather, good in the snow, fast, great build quality. The handling is good enough. Most of the time you are in traffic anyway. How many kids can you get in a boxter? My 11 year old has no bother in the back of the tt. Get a motorbike if you want real performance fun. If you like the car don't let other influence you.

Quite fancy giving the 3.2 DSG a go. I think the deeper front bumper/spoiler and BBS cross-spoke wheels sort out the girly styling perfectly too.

I like the Mk1. Not as a sportscar, but as a nice looking, sure footed daily driver it certainly beats a Golf.

Surprisingly spacious too, with the rear seats folded the boot is very usable, if a little shallow.

My dad had one for a few years and I really enjoyed driving it.

The TT in general gets slated by car enthusiasts because they don't like people buying them assuming(and gloating) they are sports cars, when in fact as we all know they are not really comparable with something like an elise/Cayman/911.

I have a Mk2(obviously) TTS, and its brilliant at being what I would call a 'sports coupe', its definitely far more capable when pushing on than most cars, and its honestly not bad at all on maximum attack even compared to full-on 'sports cars' like my previous 911 and Cayman. The difference for me is that it retains a greater degree of comforts and practicalities (some may say compromises) over the full-on aforementioned 'sports cars', and in character; it is game for driving hard whenever you want but it doesn't actively egg you on and encourage it.

I've never driven a Mk1, so I have no idea if this is something that has passed through the TT bloodline, or if the TTS is just a diamond in the rough.

When I was looking to get rid of the Clio 172, my mate suggested I have a go of his 3.2 DSG, but while it was a very nice and capable car, in terms of the driving experience it left me cold. I couldn't hear much of the engine, the whole thing felt a little too unexciting. I ended up test driving a 350Z and that was much better, and it ended up being my car instead.
