Why do the majority of drivers queue up in one lane on a dual-carriageway when the other lane isn't closing for 800yds?
Now that I think about it, that doesn't even bother me - what bothers me is when cars queuing deliberately move half way out into the other lane to block people making use of a lane that is still open for almost half a mile. I was almost on the grass verge today to drive round an old woman in a Golf who gave me a pile of abuse and blasted her horn as I went by. Saw various other cars and truck doing the same to stop other drivers using both lanes.
I'm sure there is something in the highway code about merging when lanes are restricted.

I had this a while ago...went on for a bit with everyone saying I was queue jumping...then at the end everyone was saying they did it and were isck of the people deliberately closing the gaps too.
Seems most people are just road warrior now days and being typically british get annoyed when people go infront of them whether the rules of the road allow them to do this or not.

ts that will use a slip road/filter lane to q jump that i'll block out...If you want to know WHY, I think a big part of the problem is the signage. Instead of the signage showing two lanes MERGING, it shows the right-hand lane CLOSING.
Now, the reality is that it amounts to the same thing, but what it shows to the people queueing in the left lane is that the people zooming down the right lane and then squeezing in are deliberately ignoring the signage. Which they are not, but the signage is confusing.

This is what a lorry driver decided to do to my car to prevent me passing him in lane 2 before a series of merge arrows.
I'm glad I stopped before he hit me, otherwise I'd have been right up the side of him before he'd stopped.
He was just in lane 1, in front of that Micra & tractor before he decided that I "...shouldn't be cutting in!", and shouldn't "...drive up his inside [sic]!".
Looks like it was a bit of the tyre, the indicator and mud/spray flap that caused the damage.
I'm glad I stopped before he hit me, otherwise I'd have been right up the side of him before he'd stopped.

What a dick. Did he/his insurance pay for the damage? On my commute to uni every morning there's a busy 2 lane road that merges to 1 (nothing to do with roadwork, it's a permenant feature) and people just sit and queue up in the left hand lane! I always use the empty right lane and merge at the end but most mornings you'll have a couple of drivers try and stop you getting in at the end, it's quite amusing to be honest.

I came across this in town, they had closed a lane right as it joined a roundabout, about half a mile back theres a corner and the 2 lanes start, the queue started at the end of this corner and people were waiting to cross a solid white line to get into the left lane despite the right being empty for yards, and im stuck in it, on a motorbike of all things, if they had queued and used the right lane the situation would have been half the issue it was.
