RE: Hottest-Ever Seat To Cost £25k
Discussion
I still like the looks of the old Cupra R, as it's quite distinctly more aggressive than the standard, but this just doesn't do it for me. And for £25k... I think Seat are being a little optimistic. The performance stats are pretty good, and the back end isn't bad, but all the front angles... no no NO!

I can't say I've been a fan of the fast Leons, they look too chunky for me- I quite like them with the BTCC bodykit (with the Vents and slashes everywhere), but it still reminds me a little too much of a newer VXR... a bit... halfords ish.
Albeit, I can't say much, I've got an old Integra Type R at present- but aside from the spoiler and the Recaro's, it doesn't scream 'tacky'...
But £25k for a hot hatch is pushing it, I'd be hard pressed to find an arguement that makes me change my mind. I always though the whole point of a hot hatch was cheap, fast-fun? The Leon is a bit too serious for me power wise, besides, it'll probably be torque steer central unless it's got an LSD...
I can't say I'm a fan of any new hot hatches these days, but if I were to get one, it'd have to be something from the Renault range. They're the only brand I consider to be building cars similar (term used loosely!) to what Honda used to build with the DC2 Integra's and EK9 Civics back in the 90's.
If I were after a new hot hatch nowadays, I'd have to get a Clio 200 Cup. Decent amount of power, small with a light kerb weight (compared to it's Rivals), with none of these silly standard bits that spoil the driving performance and weigh the modern Hot Hatch down... Price is just about on the mark too. I'd still want no traction control, ABS or 'fly by wire' controls...
Challenge is reliability though... Think I'll stick with the Integra actually...

VW Group own SEAT. They've already got the Audi S3, the Golf GTI & the Golf R. Do they really need a fourth version of, what is basicly, the same car?
For me I'd stick with the S3.
the golf gti is not the same imoFor me I'd stick with the S3.
you could argue the cupra isnt even the gti's contender, the 2.0 tfsi is.
but i get your point

Not quite sure where they are going with this one, a Focus RS for the same money would make mincemeat of the SEAT.
According to a recent EVO group test, the LCR was faster in a straight line (0-60 & 0-100) and around a track than the FRS. The Ford was judged to be tye better car overall however, but the article does provide food for thought.

I have had a few hot seats in the past (Leon FR and Ibiza Cupra) but no way would I pay 25K for that. Interior is awful and it just looks wrong. The old leon was awesome. ...still miss mine. You could pick up 1 year old Audi S3, new Golf GTI and Focus RS for that price. Not to mention cars such as a Z4M! Crazy pricing by SEAT, they wont sell many!
A few pointers- The price will be cheaper after discounts
- The price will be cheaper when the car is a year old
- The list price is much less than anything else in the VAG stable with the same engine
- The interior on this facelift model introduced last year is far better quality than the pre-facelift (see photo below)

Is it not basically the same as on Octavia vRS too ?For me I'd stick with the S3.

Octavia VRS is 200PS and Golf GTI is 210PS so not really the same
This compares to the S3 (265PS), Scirocco R (265PS) and Golf R (270PS)
All part of the same VW Group though. Is there really any need for another model based on the same floor pan to be thrown into the market? This compares to the S3 (265PS), Scirocco R (265PS) and Golf R (270PS)

This car (and the VAG rivals) make the 260-odd bhp Mazda 3 MPS look like cracking value at under £22k list, especially as you get stuff such as xenons, satnav, and a half decent (Bose) stereo as standard.
You don't even have to pay extra for metallic paint, which is a dream for a VAG buyer.
It's not really a looker though, but I don't think that this LCR is either, unlike the old LCR.

I'm so with you on this! I've had SEAT over the years, the usual Ibiza Cupra, Leon Cupra R210 and Cupra R225. I sat in Mk2 Cupra a few weeks back and I couldnt hide my disapointment from the salesman. Its a cheap, tacky feeling car. They are on drugs to try and sell that for that sort of money. Did everyone get a £10k payrise in January or something???Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
