I still like the looks of the old Cupra R, as it's quite distinctly more aggressive than the standard, but this just doesn't do it for me.
+1 the original LCR hasn't aged badly at all and at least the beefier styling kit set it apart from it's smaller engined stablemates.

Flatter Altea look aside (which has always been the Mk2's failing), for a range topping sport version this just looks too plain... google up the Leon K1 with it's bodykit and tell me it doesn't look the part a little more.

Take a look over the Seat Enthusiasts sites and all comments are the same.

SEAT lost their way with the Mk2 Leon.

  • goes and gets in his mk1 LCR*

I know for a fact every SEAT dealer is being 'forced' to have one as a demo. So expect to see 120 odd lightly used R's for ££££'s less soon...

I quite like the exterior styling. I had a look at a pre-facelift FR and the interior was terrible though... very dark, nasty slab of a dash with cheap plastic and wearing really badly. New one looks a bit better in pics, but I'd still rather have a Scirocco or Golf.

I've got a Cupra K1 in black and it looks great in my opinion(obviously biased). As someone said a bit earlier, it is something a bit different. I had an R32 before this car and no doubt the interior in the VW is a higher spec, however, the power delivery in the Cupra is quick and smooth and it's a bit of a giant killer when you consider with around 5-8k on the clock you can pick one up for under £17k for a pre-facelift model. The TFSI 240bhp engine is truly a lovely engine. Who wants to drive a GTI like every other person on the road?? Good to get something different and I'm sorry, in the flesh there's plenty of Spanish flair about the design. The old Mk1 Cupra R has a cult following, my friend has one. Back to back there's no comparison to the way that drives to the way the Mk2 does. The Mk2 has great feedback on the road, something I found the golf doesn't have as much of. The other point to make is that the sound system is superior to the VW's...how can that be? It's a touch of a firm ride, but great value for money and fun. If I didn't drive this I'd drive an Octavia VRS Estate- lovely.
