Just noticed that it has no number plates. That suggests the owner has never even registered it for road use.

Why is the XJ220 so unloved??

Its still a 217mph car- the third fastest production car ever. Only the Mclaren F1 and Veyron are quicker.
213. And the Koenigsegg CCR is also faster. And the actual worlds fastest production car, the SSC Ultimate Aero TT.
and the 6R4.
Enzo is faster too, got decent stoppers too, unlike the fat cat.

I'd actually be proud to say I had a 6R4 engine under the bonnet.

tbh the 220 could have had a block of wood and an elastic band with V12 written on it for all most people know about engines, so long as it says V12 on it eh... besides the engine is there to deliver forward momentum, which it did in abundance, in both this and the 6R4.
Some people are never happy though, if they really did feel cheated because they were getting six cylinders less I bet they probably knew very little about engines. IMO the bottom line is that they were shelling out megabucks for a car with super car performance and were getting just that.
I presume that you'd be as happy with a turbo'd I-4 as a V8 in your sports-car then?!?

- Name me a V6 that sounds as good as a V12?
- Name me a turbocharged engine that has as good throttle-response as a n/asp enging with twice the capacity and/or twice the cylinders?
- Name me an engine delivering ~200bhp/tonne that will last as long between rebuilds as an engine delivering ~90-100bhp/tonne?

Supercars are NOT just about power. Far from it. The engine must have character and delivery too...things which the Macca F1 engine has in spades, things which Ferrari and Lambo V12s have in spades. Things which a TT V6 doesn't have to the same degree...even that particular engine (which is among the better V6's...).

What, dented and battered, with one wingmirror hanging off?!? Damn, that's some hardcore dust they've got over there! hehe
Ok , next time your in costa's order the decaf, you're getting excited. It's just my opinion man.

You are basically saying people felt they were robbed of 6 cylinders? Fair enough, I see it differently. They ordered a performance vehicle and performance is what they received, so then the engine gets flak because of it's size, even though it actually has a heritage.
Do you think I am going to shed a tear for a bunch of sour grapes playboys who put a lot of money down on cars that weren't even in production, then on receiving a fantastic car felt short changed for no real reason.

Yep, same with the Saleen S7, Gumpert Apollo and arguably the Ultima GT-R.

Well, I think the XJ220 is marvellous, and they look simply spectacular in the flesh, even now.

My Dad's friend had one in the 90s, and it was simply epic. I saw one again recently and it had lost none of the drama.

They seem to be keen value too, and are available for around £100k now for a RHD car.
Yup saw one fairly recently too; absolutely stunning.

I'm sure there is a few more too, I was just listing ones that held the world record after the 220.

Apart from pointing out people's disappointment, where I have already stated that I don't sympathize as I believe they still bought a great car.

If the 220 was always scheduled to have had a 6R4 V6 would it somehow be a better car? IMO It would have been revered as a super-car with a V6 rather than criticized. My initial post sparked off from criticism made about the installation of a 6R4 engine which was only to the detriment of the owners expectations not the vehicle. Do you follow.

I used to live a few miles from where they built these. On a weekend morning at about 4am, you would hear them going out for a "testing". Some of us used to go out early doors on some of the routes they used, and I recall having one came past me going ridiculously fast, possibly 140mph or so on a rural road with no white lines in the middle!

Maybe it was the shoddy brakes, but they didn't half shift on "real roads"!

I also remember my car being in a local bodyshop where they did some paint rectification and finishing on these (IIRC many had stood undelivered fro some time at the factory). One of the guys there was larking about and lobbed a hammer across the shop at someone, who doged it, hammer bounced and flicked up and landed square in the wing of one of these, making a decent dent / hole in it! Rumour was it was Elton John's, but whoever's it was, it ended up with a lump of "red dog" in the wing!! laugh

I had the pleasure of seeing two at TWR in Kidlington, Oxford up close and personal. Gorgeous looking car.

Also parked up was the Ford Transit mule used for engine testing, complete with the XJ220 engine in the back! lick
it's the same one often seen at track days complete with a copy of The Sun and ladder on the roof! hehe

ETA. Found it!

One of my favourite cars although I'd have it in the classic silver (do we have the XJ220 to thank for the gazillions of silver cars that symbolised the late 90's/early 00's)

Sadly I've never seen one on the roads. In fact along with the F50 it's about the only supercar I've wanted to see in the flesh but haven't (I've seen the usual enzo's, F1's, Veyron's, F40's etc)

my grandad lived just down t road and we used to sneak over his back fence and walk up the fields and have a little spy with the field glasses, happier days and not a care in the world back then smile

Absolutely. Superb.

The vehicle details for G134 XVX are:
