of course the bigger heavier vehicle will come out on top in a one on one accident 99% of them time

can't change the laws of physics.

Maybe 4x4 drivers are all as rugged as their vehicle's image suggests.

My bet is they have the most minor claims against them compared to other types of vechicle (reversing into other peoples parked cars etc) so next to zero chance of the driver being injured in anyway, so skewing results in a big way. Its a poorly presented study, they maybe the safest to have a single vechicle accident in on B roads etc but it doesn't actually say that.

Edit

Others have said they've seen the report and it is in general accidents with other vechicles. To be expected as already stated, big car knocks little car into crumpled mess, no suprise. However, are you more likely to be having the crash in the 1st place or not if your in a big 4x4?

They maybe the safest vehicle for Paris-Bell and Tarquin strapped to the back seat, but the safety of the passengers in smaller vehicles is massively reduced.

Using that logic we'd all be better off driving Challenger tanks. OK, it would be fun for the first few weeks...
