Not to mention the fact that the S1 Quattro developed for pikes peak managed to destroy records on it's first trip up, and then again on it's second and third!
What really upset the Americans in '84 was that this funny looking German car had turned up (without a V8...), driven by a French woman and soundly beaten all the locals with their years of experience and specially built cars.Great days.
Yea i would have mentioned both those things but was out of time as i was heading out to snowboard but i figured those that know this car as well as i do (or better in some cases) more than likely knew what i was talking about as both of you have done!
And yes i would love for Group B to be brought back so i could witness the sheer sound alone in person, then the maniacally insane drivers driving the cars.

Love the Fuchs forged alloys; why were they so rare on the UK cars?
I think the Fuchs alloys were only on the earier quattros, the later ones and most coupes had the Ronals as in the picture.Theres a Quattro parked in my friends flat car park.
Has a space saver on a rear wheel, Huge dent in drivers door- which is being held closed a piece of rope tied to the handbrake lever.
It has a rust hole on the rear quarter, but only seems to have 127k on the clock.
I'm so tempted to find out who's it is, and offer them a silly amount to take it away, and restore it, but feel it would be a huge job to take on?

No mention of his career in goal for Arsenal

The very man!DoubleG - where is that picture taken? Re buying that that quattro - recommend against it as parts can be hard to source, although supposedly Audi AG is now on a mission to create a heritage parts centre like MB and BMW. Bought my Tornado Red RR in 1993 and stored in UK for most of its life while overseas, now based in France and finished refurbing the front suspension (Powerflex bushes, new custom Konis to match -30mm H&R springs) last summer, rear suspension to do this year. Suits fast flowing French A roads v well - esp when the radar detector is on ;-) Picture is of URQ outside West London Audi shortly after they launched - well worth a vist - they have the original 20v RR Press car in there - it is mint.

Had one years ago, brought it second hand and was told it was the 3rd one imported into the UK.
Don't know if that was true but it was LHD and had a MPH speedo.
What I do know is that it was a fantastic car!
You had to adapt your driving style to allow for the turbo lag - get onto the throttle as you enter the corner so the power comes on as you are in the corner/exiting it - once you got used to that it would just grip and go round corners at silly speeds.
Get on the throttle late and it would understeer but not that badly if I remember correctly.
Get on the throttle a touch to early and it would oversteer, controllable and very nice!
When getting parts from the dealer I got used to asking for coupe parts not quatrro parts - there was a difference in price!
I only sold it because I knew that one day I would have an accident and due to the speed it was capable of it would be a big accident.
Still wish I'd not been so sensible!

I had an early (1984) RHD one when I was 21 and it was an amazing car. Tricky to get corners perfect tho-50/50 torque split and a big old turbo saw to that-turn in early before the apex, foot down before the apex(always amusing to hear the passengers reactions to this!!)wait for the turbo to spool up and if you got it right it would drift perfectly past the apex and rocket out of the corner
I too asked for 200 turbo parts from the dealer for money saving;) and was told by David Preece, the then quattro club boss, not to worry too much about accident damage when looking for one as quattro's don't have small accidents
I do far prefer the drive of my e34 M5 but I don't regret the quattro one bit

I like them a lot - when I was younger the guy who used to own ERA locks had a red one as well as a 911 Turbo ( 4-speeder B-reg ).
He replaced the 911 with a 928.
I remember him saying that without exception, the Audi was by far the most expensive to get serviced at the dealer.
I guess the specialists and DIY help out on that front these days

Dealers won't know what to do with a quattro now. Best to go to Roger Galvin at the "quattro workshop" near Lutterworth. He has a stock of cars for sale and many second hand parts if needed, and also knows where to source or get manufactured some of those hard to find parts. Roger has maintained mine for 12 years and it does no go anywhere else.
