The Snake to Lymm?
There are more interesting roads. Where are you going from?
Well, i was coming from Wakefield, and i know the Snake very well so it seemed like the logical choice for me...There are more interesting roads. Where are you going from?
I did join it part way along though, took a very interesting road down to it, can't remember the name though.
Will be doing a bit of a driving holiday around the north/north west in September, when e25 get their Merc SLS in Leeds....

Lovely car. Shame it never stood a chance in the face of the E60 M5.
Not really a like-for-like comparison, though, is it? The M5 would be up against the RS6, with the S8 matching the 750i, no?Great write up Beefmeister, and great pictures too. The ones of the XKR remain my favourites though.

Careful on the Snake. It's 50 now and scamera vans can be dark blue or green. The bikers reckon they're also using a builder's van and a motorhome. If you see a van, there might be a plod on foot, within a quarter of a mile, with a hand-held device. Also bike plods near the summit with electrickery stuff.

I didn't realise their new place was in Wakefield, I will have to keep an eye out for some of the exotica trundling around here!
Yep, they're on the Trinity Business Park if you know it. Pop down there on a sunny day and you'll see the cars outside, and they'll be happy to let you look around them, they're a really nice bunch. miniman said:

The running costs for the S8 (depreciation excluded) are not too bad. We purchased the service pack with the car when new which includes routine servicing during the first 3 years for £280. The car has so far only required 1 service and will need another in around 8 months (it is variable based on how it is used etc). I dont think the servicing costs would be too bad anyway, I would budget around £450 per year. Tyres are £190 each from our local supplier. The brake pads still have a few months to go and the car has been faultless since new. As a total maintenence budget for tyres, servicing and other consumables I estimate around £1K p/a over 3 years. Insurance on a personal policy would be around £1200 for a 35 y/o and in low risk area.
Tim clearly used the car to it's potential, over the last 12 months it has averaged 19.5 MPG, not bad for such a big beast.
Depreciation is the biggest cost, we have the benefit of fleet discounts, even so the monthly depreciation of this has been around £1400. We will sell it at 3 years after which the depreciation will reduce significantly, the running costs will probably increase however these can be offset by using an independant specialist.
Whilst the car is pretty expensive to run it is relatively cheap compared to our LP560! When you consider the range of cars we offer members and typical running costs I think it shows the value of club membership!

Excellent write up. Glad you enjoyed the car.
I have just changed my 3.0TDi A8L for the 4.2TDi version and it is stupendous but with reasonable economy. Looking at getting it remapped or chipped in the near future.
The A8's are a fantastic bit of kit with so many toys. (Yes, I enjoy the bootlid trick as well, looks so flash but really practical especially as I do so much airport work).

Thanks again.
I'm considering getting hold of a 3.0 TDi as my daily driver - seems to tick a lot of boxes and can be bought for not a lot nowadays...
