Shhh! don't tell everyone how good they are!

Seriously, nice write up. I've always had half an eye on these and this just makes me want one all the more, but I'll have to wait a couple more years methinks.

Quick question - how were the brakes? I'm pretty sure these came with a carbon ceramic disc option, which seems to make sense on a 2-tonne barge with such a mighty engine, but did the standard items cope okay?

Actually i'm not sure which brakes this one had - maybe Paul from e25 can tell us.

I think they may have been the ceramics as they were rather iffy when cold, but did a fine job of stopping once warmed up. This the experience i've had with Porsche and Ferrari ceramics too...

Ours has the standard brakes which are very effective. I have driven one with ceramics however during normal driving I could not detect any benefit, as the car is more of a luxury high speed tourer I am not sure the extra cost of ceramics would be of value.

One thing you do notice in the S8 is the forward "creep" when the car is in coming to a halt or during low speed movements. It can feel as if the brakes are having little effect and then they activate quickly making it tricky to come to a smooth stop.

The adaptive cruise control takes a little getting used to, trusting the car to brake and accelerate for you is very unnatural although the system is very useful in poor conditions, I used more as an assistant than being leaving it in total control. It does make long motorway drives much more relaxing.

As a slight aside, the Jaguar XKR that Tim last reviewed has retired from the ecurie25 fleet here in the North, it is still with us on our lease fleet (Cars on Demand), a member was so taken with it he wanted to keep it! I have replaced it with a stunning Phantom Grey Audi R8. Whilst it was a shame to take the Jag off it had very few users, everyone seemed to want our Aston Vantage instead. The R8 however is proving very popular with members and has already received the most forward bookings on the supercar fleet, followed by the LP560 and F430 - tough job this having to choose cars......

Seems to be a nice old thing, but you missed the bit where it was a bh and you spanked it.

Lovely car. Shame it never stood a chance in the face of the E60 M5.
Not really a like-for-like comparison, though, is it? The M5 would be up against the RS6, with the S8 matching the 750i, no?
Yep and I'd much rather have the S8 than the 7!

Hmmm, that's three people saying I read like Troy Queef. I don't know whether to laugh or be a bit cheesed off!
