Good to hear your enjoying it and getting better mpg than I. I find the engine a bit muted though, performance exhaust is looking like a good option to breath some life into it. Is it the same on the clk?

It's not got the 'bellow' of the AMG models but instead has a rich, cultured growl which suits the character of the car. It's fairly loud when you mash the throttle but quiet at lower revs.I'm not sure how it would compare to yours as I've not driven a car with the earlier 500 engine.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with you here, the factory fitted vmax limiter on the M5 and M6 is actually at 172/173mph indicated, which is a true GPS speed of 167/168mph. When you configure a new M5/M6 one of the FACTORY OPTIONS is to have the limiter removed (The M-Driver Package) which also involves a full day at the BMW driver training facility prior to taking delivery of your factory de-restricted M5/M6. Granted the M-driver package is around about a £1800 optional extra but my point is that you CAN get an M5 or M6 from the factory without the limiter on so I see no reason why people can't refer to the M5/M6 as a 200mph+ car.
I have done several vmax events including Fighting Torque and 2 private runs at Bruntingthorpe courtesy of CA Automotive who removed my limiter for me (the M-driver package wasn't an available option when I purchased my M5). For around the same price I could have had my M5 "chipped" to allegedly give me more bhp and torque but I'm not keen on any of that, I just wanted to keep it 100% stock except for the limiter removal. I was willing to pay BMW's high price to retro-purchase the M Driver package but BMW only offer it on new builds.

Yeah and I did start my post by saying I have a soft spot for these cars but I am just going by official BMW figures, I can't ever recall any other car where all the motoring press and TV made such a big thing about what a car "would" do if unrestricted, my point was that as standard from BMW they are "electronically limited to 155mph" - (BMW quote) I had a Sierra cosworth way back and they struggled to detune the engines to meet Fords spec but didn't make a big thing about "what they could do if derestricted"

The passengers in mine almost always either don't shut it properly on the first/second attempts or slam it so hard it feels like i have been neutered with a rusty sickle... I would have loved soft close on mine.....that said, perhaps it should be standard fit?

I find the M6 to be a very comfortable cruiser. Unlike much of the BMW range it's not got run flat tyres and with the suspension set to 'comfort' the ride quality is very good indeed. On the 'beauty' point I'll have give you that one.
I also found the 6 series before I could even dream of buying one, let alone an m6 to be a thing of beauty and the merc mentioned above to be quite dated and crap looking.
I thin the Jag does compete with the M6 well on comfort and beauty side, but I have doubts about relaiabilty and efficiency of their build.
I guess this just proves that it's a good thing that people have different tastes and opinions.
alot of comments here are just nonsense! I have run an M6 convertible for almost 3 years, i purchased it from BMW with 4,300 miles on, it was the UK launch car, i have covered 21k miles, it has been tracked (hard) on 3 occassions, it has taken 2 adults & 2 children plus a boot full of luggage on a 3,000 mile trip across Europe recently without any problem. I have yet to find a 'supercar' that can lose it in normal driving conditions. On a 'spirited' run (Bristol to London) it returns 19 - 21 mpg, and in everyday commuting traffic with a mix of 'B' roads & city driving it gives 14 mpg, i don't think you can expect to run a 4 seater, 500bhp v10 car and get good fuel figures! I've been lucky enough to have owned 997 Porsche Carrera S, Jaguar XKR Conv, and some other decent performace cars over the last 6 years, but nothing comes close to the M6 in terms of overall performance, reliabilty, comfort (when not in M mode) and build quality. I can't see anything in the market at the moment to replace it with.
