I'll say it again, the Focus RS is bl**dy good as it is without 4wd. A C30 with 400bhp and 4wd with 2s LSD to boot = £ 40k +.
I paid £26k for my RS last year. Saying that if Ford announced a 4wd Focus RS and had more power I'm sure it would be amazing but I am not convinced about how much better it would actually be, especially if it costs £10-£15k more in the first place.

The ST and the RS both use Volvo engines and transmissions.

Ford did build some AWD RS prototypes but their specification and the character they wanted to build into the car (as per Jost Capito interviews) meant they designed the Revoknuckle front suspension modification and went with a LSD Quaife differential.

Volvo has built C30R prototypes ranging from 300-350bhp (confirmed officially in interview with Lex Kerresmakers) and I understand they included AWD ones. The Polestar 400bhp version indeed "shows up" the Focus RS and I personally feel a glass ceiling at Volvo under Ford ownership prevented the C30R from making production (even in 300bhp form) as it would steal some of the Focus RS' thunder.

However, the debt Ford owes Volvo for the ST and RS cars (since they use Volvo engines and transmisions) is important to remember.

Does anyone else think that this is the sort of thing Ford should have done with the Focus RS??? (Which has the same platform and engine)
Ford tested this platform with the Haldex system (which is basically 95% torque to the front in normal conditions) and felt it was not worth the compromise of weight and steering feel.
So the question is, is the RS compromised against rivals with active diff AWDS?..probably..is it compromised against the haldex system.. definitely not it would have be easier and cheaper to go the Haldex route, instead they developed the renvo- knuckle FWD.

That's pretty sweet. Glad they opted for AWD with that power!

Is the conventional C30 a good drive?
I like the drive of our C30 and it's only the 2.0d. More importantly to me, the OH loves it! Unfortunately due to impending family it's going to have to go, but a V50 will probably replace it (same chassis, same engine, same dash and interior at the front).

It's volvo's way of pointing out how silly the RS is and how it shouldn't carry an RS badge.
I'm inclined to agree with that tbh

it shows what the RS "could" have been, if only Ford had the inclination frown

In regard to surely this is what the RS should be and if is the same platform as the RS Focus, the answer as I am aware is the Engine and Gearbox are the same. Its a Volvo Engine which due to the Ford/Volvo partnership Ford have used to power there Flagship model. However it appears Volvo have had the last laugh saying our engine will be faster lol.

Id like to say I hope they make it, but its highly doubtful. It just seems to me all car manufacturers at this level seem to be too scared to make anything with much grunt due to new regulations and Prius lovers. Even the Golf/Scirroco R has been reduced to just a 2 litre turbo, rather than the old R32 3.2 V6. Such a shame.

this is so 'badass' i have had to come back for another look. i so want one of these!

problem is if made something like this would be no less than 26/27k.

but you want it to basically be a slightly more fluid frs. and say 21k.

(no idea what a phase 2 c30 t5 costs btw!).

Always liked the C30 and up until seeing this had my heart set on a T5...
Hopefully this shows the new Volvo philosophy and direction

As mentioned earlier this is the same platform as Focus RS. As is the S40, V50, Mazda 3, Mazda 5 and the Cmax.

Sorry quoted wrong post not sure how. Anyway I think to hell with it. I reckon they should make this beast and make it FWD. imagine the weight saving. Bring on revoknuckle plus.
