I don't speak any German either so I politely asked if the operator spoke English and in each case they did (perfectly well enough to help me out) - I was impressed.
Most European call centres have either English speakers available, or a translation service they can connect in - might take an extra few minutes, but they can normally find someone, same for emergency services.

(Even in France (skeptical me) where I've called in an accident they had a fluent English speaker on the line in about 20 seconds)

When I looked into this a yr or so ago the problem with the ADAC is they will only tow you (IIRC) 50 miles if you break down in the UK.

If I'm close to home I'll fix it or get a mate to come out - when I want the cover is when I'm bloody miles away from anywhere.

Whilst I've never actually needed such cover it seems pointless to have such limited cover.

However (IIRC) if you break down in Europe they will repatriate the car as long as they deem its worth more than the cost of recovery.
Didnt know that bit, as its going to be my only cover frown ah well, i'll still risk it! Its still cheaper to join ADAC for the year than it is to pay for a weeks euro recovery with the RAC!

Which basically says that I'm already a member and my number is xxxxxxxxx! Also the cover started on the 1st, 7 days before I emailed them. I 'phoned and asked how I'm supposed to pay, and they said that a bill was on its way.

On the 13th they sent me the membership cards + details which had their bank details and the amount of euros owed. On the back of the letter is the IBAN number and BIC code, so I could make a payment from my bank.

Hope this helps.

A friend of mine is resident in the UK but speaks fluent German and covers himself through the ADAC.. he's a very satisfied customer and never has any problems getting them out when his cars break down!

If I spoke German, I'd do the same!

I had ADAC for a few years to cover me for my ring trips.

I've never had to use them over there fortunately, however i had the throttle cable snap whilst in the UK and had to call them out.

They had English speaking staff which was very helpful, i eventually got recovered to a local depot, and then the fun started.

The recovery company claimed that ADAC were only authorising them for £50 of travel expenses. I had the ADAC call staff on the end of my phone who were assuring me and the recovery company that that wasn't the case, and they could recover me back home (about 50 miles).

The recovery company said they would only deal with their claims contact at ADAC, who was saying they would not pay out.

At 6am in the morning after a long night out, having spent 2 hours at the depot, on my birthday, i just paid up and made my way home in a truck at 56mph.

ADAC never responded to my written letters, emails or phone calls about getting a refund.

Have just joined ADAC Partner Package E98.70 for the year + E4.00 for membership myself & wifey. Spoke to a nice chap who spoke English, took 5 mins to take our details over the phone, paid by CC, membership valid from the next day. Have a membership number & a number to call in an emergency.

Jobs a gooden, cards coming in the post & the German magazine too smile

O/T but if anyone wants a € sign, then on a standard UK keyboard, you use 'AltGr' (on the right of the spacebar usually) and '4'

One thing to check is your insurance policy. If you have a classic policy you might find European coverage is included. It is on my Footman James policy although limited to £250 worth of repairs.

Just to bump this thread agian as it helped me and im guessing like me there are a few people off on euro trips shortly.
I just called them and they couldn't be more helpful and don't be scared if you don't speak German! you WILL be fine If you want to call them to join this is a useful number to call them on....

Telephone enquiries and to join and pay my debit/credit card phone offices Tel No. 00 49 941 52344 and speak to one of the four staff who speak fluent English.

Ms Amanda Moser-Wickles, Ms. Barbara Lorenz, Ms. Tanja Niedermeier or Markus Maier.

If you get an answer phone message when ringing this number it tells you they are extremely busy and to leave a message in German. If you leave, your name and telephone number and reason for ringing, they will get back to you.

I can vouch for the ADAC. I never had to use them on my euro trips, but when the clutch finally went (on the way to buy a new one, actually) they were absolutely brilliant.

If you need anything translating, give me a shout and I'l be happy to help you out.

the only company that recovers you for free from the ring!

I put this to the test when I had a blow out at eiseplatz and had to be flat bedded off the circuit.

I also had to call them as the limo that then took me from nurburgring to home hd an oil pump failure and blew its engine somewhere in france. We got a lift from someone else and ADAC recovered the car to yeovil FOC!!

I have heard that there are some conditions on which they will help in the UK but am not sure what restrictions are in place.

Just spoke to a very nice gentleman (accidentally got their emergency number). He guided me through to be able to sign up to ADAC online WITH a UK address. He told me to enter "99999" in the post code, which will allow me to sign up through the website. I guess afterwards I can always email them asking for my details to be corrected with the postcode.

They've saved my bacon twice now and all for a very reasonable 110 euro for the two of us. Can't recommend them highly enough.

Well, I've just sorted the renewal but was a tad painful.

Phoned to pay by credit card & they won't do that over the phone, sent a pdf doc which had to be posted back with your cc no, security code & signature, imagine explaining that to the cc co if it was misused.

Resorted to Swift bank & Iban through online banking but for that Barclays charged me £15, so for joint membership euro 84 + £15.

ADAC on the whole look ok,

but its worth checking who you are covered with, yesterday a friend had a coil pack go on his M3 on a trackday, a 10min fix if you have the right kit and part.
his insurance breakdown wouldn't fix him, just tow.

i had the bit between the coil and lead go on a bank holiday in Bude.
the RAC diagnosed it, drove 30 miles to get the part, came back and fixed it, all for the cost of the part, much better than spoiling your day getting towed home.
