I want the 400hp one. The first Volvo i've actually wanted for more than a decade. Seriously i would buy it.

280hp version to compete with S3/focus/golf/whatever? No thanks.

To go from the first thing to the second would be one of the biggest motor industry disappointments of all time. Volvo fail.

Well, Riggers fail really - Volvo or Polestar haven't said anything about a 280bhp C30. I'm just hypothesizing based on where they say they want to go..

If Polestar can get the nod from Volvo, and personally I think it's in their interest to do this, then they'll probably be able to create a few different versions the top (most breathed on version being the 400 bhp beast, I am speaking from a position of hope not knowledge, please read this polestar, I have the cash and I want the car. Oh and sort out the haldex so it like to oversteer it's much more fun.

The person who writes this article, does he think it's cool to have every other paragraph a different size because it's not, or is he just retarded.

I dunno, your hypothesis is entirely plausible. It's exactly what the bean counters do - look at an existing segment, the size of the market, and target a slice of it, that way they can do reliable cost/return estimates etc.
Creating a new segment is much riskier - there aren't any 400bhp 4wd cars like this - the only ones out there are styled for WRC types and extreme vehicular extroverts, like the FQ400, which is an impossible thing on the road, and anyway it's much bigger.

Unless BMW make a 1-series M with 375+bhp it would be in a niche all on it's own

I can see it selling in this mad state for no more than the Cosworth RS sham without making a loss for Volvo, but only if they can shift at least 10 000 Polestars. But are there 10 000 prospective customers, willing to pay Exige/S4/TTS/Boxster/FQ360 money for a Focus, albeit a mental one.

Beat me to it!!

A standard 850 T5 is still man enough to deal with most modern hot hatches in a straight line.

I liked mine alot and my local tyre depot loved me smile

Based on the Focus RS 500 price, which shares the same engine, I'd reckon this would cost at least 45 grand.

The Focus RS 500 tuning pack can be bought from Mountune for 2000 pounds,so the real price would be less than 30 000 pounds. The 8000 pounds markup is just the mat black film cover and the ''exclusivity'' of owning a limited edition Focus.
