Metro (preferbaly in Beige) with 1.8 K-Series VVC. About as cheap and amusing as you'll get.

Omega + chevy V8. You know it makes sense.
Saab 2.3 Turbo into Omega would be a lot easier (gearbox bolts straight on).

Volvo 960 with a V8. If it's good enough for Paul Newman, it's good enough for you;

This.

A facelift Omega with a decent engine would be cracking. Even better if it was an estate.

Corsas with CO2XE or CO2LET seem to be everywhere now so I'm not sure whether that discounts them as a sleeper.

If I was making a sleeper it would need a subtle exhaust note - if that poverty spec omega behind is snarling like a pitbull eating a bumble bee then it isn't exactly sleeperish!

Like wise, streched steelies are really effective at hiding a bit of a beast.

Mk1 Golf GTi with 1.8T (VAG)
E30 with E36 M3 3.0
Mini Type-R

A PHer on here has a rather naughty Stag witha TVR sourced V8 & a BMW rear differential. It is very nice!

hi looking at a possible project that would not take forever but would leave me with something dare i say 'cheeky' and quite comical to boot. the easier the engine swap the better and the cheaper the better but it has to be servicable for the road and not rusted to death. i know that the brakes and suspension will need looking at too and possibly the donor gearbox to come along with the donor engine.

all ideas welcome.
One of these:

Or these:

With one of these:

These:

Or maybe these:

Or use one of these:

In something like:

Or less of a sleeper, but many in the UK have no idea what they are. And it's an easy fit/swap for the LS1:

I want to put a Scooby unit in that. Given it was actually designed for a boxer the engine bay is perfect for it.

It's no more cheap & easy than it is to fit a Chevy V8 into any other car, unfortunately. You'd still need to fabricate a load of parts. None of it is plug'n'play. Would be no different from fitting one to Sierra/Capri or 5 series BM.

There are a few knocking about though but you could just buy a Holden with one already in for the same cost of creating one.

I was behind an old Pug 205 GTi the other day and the speed on the motorway sliproad was rapid, couldn't tell you what was under the bonnet a breathed on 1.9gti or an M16 or whatever it is unit but for an old 205 it was very very quick.

I was going to suggest this, I bought a taxed and tested E30 320i for £300, you can get knackjkered M3's or decent engined E36's or 5 Series (328i's) for £500-£1000. then mix and match for cheap results.

Could be Mi16, Gti-6, 8v Turbo etc. All cheap and easy swaps. 180+bhp in something made from tin foil and fag packets is always going to be quick wink

I can't see the appeal of an Omega sleeper. The Police used them for years and the factory 3.2 ELITE was no slouch anyhow. I just can't see how anyone could really be surprised by one, which in my mind is the idea of a sleeper.

What's not to like?

With the back end being the same as the M3 Coupe and a decent set up at the front you'd basically be getting a better looking, lighter and more practical M Coupe.

fk me, I'm a genius

I've always wondered if it's possible to put one of these:

into one of these

I don't have a mechanics bone in my body so wouldn't know where to start, but if you put in the suspension from an MG ZS I'm sure if would be a lot of fun!

ETA sorry 300BHP, I appear to have nicked your engine pic...
