Are you actually worried about that now? Sounds like he did the right thing for the OP by getting it off the road when it was going to be written off anyway.

Here was my lovely Supercharged Golf R32 - after being hit from the rear at about 50mph whilst I was stationary in traffic. Stupid moron had no idea what she had just written off. clap

Sorry can't seem to get the photos to load the correct way up.

Almost saw that one live! Hows the new one Simon? When's the first run out? Weather is getting ok for a blast!

Erm I assume your field of expertise is in accident investigation? It was a straight section of 50 mph dual carrideway (previously clear behind me), but of course you know that from when you were at the side of the road with your speed gun. I can confidently say it was more than 20mph - perhaps more like 40mph. The lack of skid marks and the look of the drivers face of 'oh st' which she was 10 meters from my rear bumper (still clearly imprinted in my mind) means very little breaking was done.

Lol the funny thing is I vaguely remember seeing a nice Z4M drive past amidst all the carnage which was going on around me! I will get on to arranging a run out soon - its been too long. New one is great, just a bit slower!

The lorry driver did not know it was a write off. What if the Police wanted to photograph the scene. Just sounds like he was too impatient to get on with his own very important day.

Quite a lot of breaking appears to have been done smile

Serious question prompted by the post. Does maximum attack abs-on braking to avoid breaking leave any skid marks other than the obvious undergarment ones?

Regardless of the political ins and outs, once the initial shock had passed we found the whole thing hilarious!

As I said I was being an absolute tool leaving the car where it was, and I think with the crash being so minor and clearly no injuries it wasn't a big deal in the grand scheme. Though had it been a proper smash of course I would agree with you

40 mph offset crash onto a deformable barrier. Ok, not the same deformation characteristics as your Golf's rear end, but it still indicates the rough level of damage one can expect.

Funny. Especially when I imagine Timmy Mallett saying it.

You can't easily compare a front and rear crash. Even at the same impact speed the energy absorbed is very different, plus the damage due to the power train is different.

That's to indicate the damage to the silver golf not the victim car. Look at the pictures again.

People always seem to exaggerate impact speeds, natural enough I s'pose.

and kinetic energy squares the velocity so a 50 mph impact would be way way worse, also they crash test the front of cars not the backs so they generally fold up a lot more

with the millions of beige dross boxes out the the idiot has to park in the back of an R32 frown

And it's not uncommon for people not to brake hard enough to use the abs as they drive into something.

I've never un-learned building up brake pressure and weight transfer and then looking for the edge of adhesion.

And then people who aren't into cars and bikes also tend not to hit the pedal hard enough to use the abs for full braking time.
