I did add #YPLAC to my tweet https://twitter.com/darrenfranks/status/8548184446...
This happened to my original 1984 Golf GTi recently:
I was stationary, turning right and giving way to oncoming traffic when a Volvo 850 hit me from behind at approximately 60MPH.
The elderly driver didn't even brake or swerve and turned out to be a diabetic who was feeling "unwell" and trying to get home.
It was a nice morning and I had the window open and suddenly heard the Volvo heading for me but I couldn't move.
I looked over my left shoulder in the hope that I would see the car go past but it hit the Golf with a massive impact which spun my car round into the oncoming traffic which luckily managed to avoid colliding with me.
I consider myself very lucky to escape with cuts, bruises and severe whiplash when I look at the wreckage.
Thankfully I was alone - anyone in the back would have almost certainly been killed.
It's such a bloody tragedy as the car was irreplaceable and had a remarkable history. It was awarded 'Best in Show' at last year's PH/VW Golf GTi Open which speaks volumes for an original, unrestored car. I can't imagine what I will replace it with.
The remains have been sold to a fellow enthusiast who is restoring a similar car that he has owned since new.

You are a lucky lucky man to be alive. Tragic for the car. What a shame.
Yes, it was covered by an agreed value policy thankfully, which has paid out. I haven't lost out financially.
I feel it was probably under-insured looking at classic car prices lately so I would advise anyone with a classic car to make sure its valuation is up to date.
The Volvo driver initially tried to blame me for 'slowing down' (!) and at first refused to give a blood sample to the ambulance crew for analysis but soon realised that any excuses were futile. It was clear to the police that he hadn't braked and I also had an independent witness that stopped to give me his number.
His insurance company have finally admitted liability which should help speed up my claim.
I always thought whiplash was just a stiff neck. I wouldn't wish my symptoms on anyone. I haven't slept properly since the accident 7 weeks ago and my left arm is still weak. I can't raise it past 60 degrees at the moment and driving makes the pain worse. I am having physiotherapy but it's a slow recovery.

Hell of a crash that one !!Genuine whiplash is nasty, I'm currently going through treatment to correct long term damage from a bad case of whiplash I got 4 years ago. I was t boned by a very OAP and spent about 3 weeks in absolute agony. I couldn't sleep, work properly, move my head at all and just general agony. 4 years on I'm seeing a chiropractor to help with poor posture and it turns out I have long term damage most likely relating to the whiplash. What I didn't realise is I lose over 50% of my strength when my head is turned to the right. Almost £700 later I'm finally almost straight and regained most my strength when head turned on side.
I wish you a speedy recovery, don't leave it like I did !

Honestly, on my motorbike, it's none white (what's PC for none white these days?) taxi drivers and any colour women who are an absolute menace on the road - because they're glued to their phones. Can't put them down.I have the unfortunate inconvenience of having to live in RAF accommodation at the minute and there's a school at the entrance. There's around 6 massive speed bumps on the main road that the cul-de-sacs shoot off from. The only people who speed up and down (therefore need the speed bumps) are women. Every single time.
They're beyond clueless.
And if they're not speeding up and down the estate, they're walking the kids or pushing them in a pram glued to their phone. Crossing roads not paying attention, not paying attention to what their children are doing.
