This is what happens when an Astra van driver on the phone drives around the outside of a roundabout on a ring road in rush hour.

Probably the most scary crash pics I've seen (not involving fatalities or serious injuries). Nothing to do with me, but it was a single car incident with only the driver - who amazingly walked away.

Excuse me, but where the fk is the road?... and the fence for that matter?! yikes
This probably explains it better - the Evo had gone through the fence and turned through 180* either in or before entering the ditch.

Had a dozy woman drive straight at me on a single track lane. She was looking over her shoulder screaming at her brats in the back seat, while driving forward obliviously at about 40 mph.

I had to drive up a steep grass bank to my left to avoid a head on, which was so steep the car ended up on it's side.

Insurance and Bib found in my favour.

You're lucky the other driver didn't miss you, or was traced. My wife and our next door neighbour have both been run off country roads by other cars that just carried on never to be seen again. My wife's was into the sandstone wall of a bridge.

Well it's a Saxo. So I'm going to say his passenger slammed the door. hehe

(Or I seem to remember he spun it and hit a bridge at speed)

Ouch!

What happened? Thats a fair impact it looks to have taken?

Hope everyone was ok? Especially the kids?
Everyone is fine now thanks.
I was unconscious for about 30 minutes. Wife was knocked around and bruised. My daughter who was sat in the rear near side was fine other than being very upset. But my Son who was sat in what used to be the rear offside had to be air lifted to hospital. Thankfully he pulled through and if fine now, but he was out cold for a few days. The impact was an estimated 60 mph. I was sitting at the back of a traffic jam and the approaching driver (VW Passat) didn't see the back of the queue. I guess his attention was probably diverted elsewhere but we never found out.
The only good thing to come from all this, is the sizeable compensation sitting in a child trust fund!
lesson learned - I always approach stationary traffic slowly and consciously bring the vehicles behind into a controlled stop. I always watch them approach and give myself an escape route. I knew the guy was going to hit us but I didn't leave enough room to get out of the way frown
Yikes. I hope the law threw the bookcase at this chap.

That bit I highlighted and the bad looking crash suggests they weren't able to...

He got an £800 fine and 6 points for driving with undue care and attention, and I suspect a sizeable premium on his insurance quotes for a few years. The crash was six years ago now.

Very good tip - I got praise on my Advanced Driving test for doing that around a bend when I'd seen standing traffic from an earlier viewpoint.

I do it on motorways too - bugger these people who say don't brake, I want to make sure the guy behind has seen that I'm braking and slow him so that I won't be compacted into the car in front.

It's a myth that fuel tanks often explode on impact.

Mythbusters proved this.

They don't often explode on impact, but they do have a tendency to split... and all it takes is one little arc from the fuel pump or somesuch and then you have a fairly mighty inferno

As I once found out at Spa in a Caterham
