Jesus, that must be exciting.
Exciting is not the word I would use. Bloody scary more like.
Got to be the ultimate white knuckle, brown trouser ride with the right driver at the wheel! yikes

You can pick up a boggo 997 Gt2 for what, £100k now?
I would be interested to know how far you could get with £60k spent upgrading one of those yourself.
Missing the point though. The buyers of this car will not blink at spending £160k. They are the type of person who would never waste their time buying a second hand GT2 and then getting it upgraded.
Given the ratio of interested parties to available cars in the UK, I suspect anyone spending the requisite £160k will have their money in a very safe place.

Buying a standard GT2 for £100k and spending £60k on upgrades would almost certainly see you lose most of your £60k as well as eroding a good chunk of your original £100k in the process!

I know that none of you will agree with me on this but it's still a 911 and all 911s are driven by people with small c**ks. And they're ugly, common and have no character or charm. They are all about how much weight you can save and how much downforce you've got. If I had the (approxiately) £170,000 to spend on a car that's epic on road and track, I'd buy a Corvette ZR1 (yes I know it's extremely crass but I love it) and spent the extra 60-odd thousand pounds on converting it to RHD and revamping that ghastly interior.

You really have a problem with the 911, don't you? Have you ever tried one?

I think given the choice between having a small c0ck or being the guy who measures and documnets driver specific c0ck size..I'd take the small c0ck

phone Hello olly, are you jeremy Clarkson's butt f_ck buddy? You both seem to have this hatred for 911s for no reason. Swallowing his cum too much clearly has effected the bits between your brain.

When will it end? Surely they cant keep that design going for much longer? It could develop 1000bhp and lap the Ring in 5 minutes but it would still put me to sleep. It doesnt look like a supercar to me, its more sportscar. Sure they turn heads but its for the wrong reason. I hate to say crashed through halfords but i think theyve run out ideas so theyve dug out the rattle cans and fablon. I have no desire to own a Porsche.

Anyone here who says "I have no desire to own a Porsche" actually have the money to buy any of it's competitors?

It's faster than anything in it's class.

It can carry luggage (no, an R8 can't, honestly).

Everything except the GT's has 4 seats (which, yes...are usable...).

It get's a decent level of attention - i.e. people look at it and admire it, but you can still park it on the highstreet and not worry too much about it being keyed when you come back.

It's not an unreasonable question though is it. Last versions were 996 then 997 then 998. Presumably when they go through 999 and then 999.5 they could finally retire the 911. Problem is that anything that they do afterwards may be mid engined and that will make people think of it as a new Cayman/Boxster not a 911 replacement.

And I say all that as a 911 fan.

What's wrong with it being rear engined?

1) Leaves space for luggage
2) ...and seats
3) ...and still handles well (GT2 RS = 7min18s ring time)
4)...and is fast (Turbo S = 2.9s to 60)
5) Race drivers (or people who know about handling) love the way the rear engine handles
6) ...and win lots of races with 911's....

Why move to a mid-engined car and lose all the packaging advantages?

True, they could keep the rear engine as a "manufacturer trait" (or some such marketting bks) but could they resist the temptation to make it 911 shape again? biggrin

Some of the pejorative comments seem just silly to me. 911s are not for everybody, which is perfectly fine with me. I happen to oike them although in a lifetime of buying cars I have only bought three 911s. I had a 911 S many years ago and did not buy another one till 2008, and an additional one in 2010. After many years of not driving them it was quite revelatory. Yes, the R8 is a very interesting car, and I took one for a few days, but it did not feel so connected as the RS. The 2RS does not work for me personally, without any negative implications. Just too much car for what I need, which is adequately filled by the 3RS.
There seems to a bit of inconsistency in the comments that they all look the same but that they are a subsititute for the inadequately endowed. To the average person they DO look all the same, so as a statement of manhood, they fail. You need something far more screaming than a 911 for that purpose.
The ones I have driven , (most of the current range) are communicative, driver-oriented, and fun. Luckily, for those seeking personal enhancement, there are more
expansive choices.
