What happened to the idiot that was fitting 400mm spacers?

Can't be bothered doing the sum, but i wonder how much of a thump/pothole it'd take to cause the wheel bolts to fail. Not much i imagine.
If the spacer fits over the spigot on the hub, and if there is a spigot machined into the spacers then the vertical loading on the wheel bolts should be minimal.Of course, if you're talking about somebody who wants mahoosive spacers, then those two ifs become rather large.

As said, the bending moments would be much larger, but also I suspect that the verticle load isn't actually carried by the spigot (or dowels when present), but actually by the friction between the hub and the wheel face, created by the normal force produced by the tightened wheel nutsOf course, if you're talking about somebody who wants mahoosive spacers, then those two ifs become rather large.
I love how everyone on that site is saying it's "mint" and anyone who questions it gets shouted down. It's not "mint", he started with a perfectly serviceable runabout and has turned it into a bodge of fibreglass patches, dodgy welding and so much filler you can see the imperfections a mile away! The amount of money he's spunked on that he could've paid someone to do it properly and had it on the road ages ago - instead he's got bugger all to show for it.
What a mong

I hate to poop on your party folks, but page 14 on of the link posted yields this from the Barry who owns it : "so, ive got rid of the stupid spacers as they were a crap idea"
Yes, we can see that - but it was/is a bit of a random idea in the first place.... I can think of at least one "random" thought of my own Edited by james_tigerwoods on Monday 2nd August 13:02
I read the first six pages and must admit, I thought well done to him. Insurance for young guys is so extreme that, simply, you have to have low powered cars. However, the chance to individualise it is there. And it's what he's doing. He correctly said himself - the spacers were a stupid idea (I think he did it to see if he could - not with any intention of actually running with them).
But look - he's doing it all himself, he's enjoying it, where's the problem?

Page nine shows the new wheels versus next to the originals, and more importantly the difference in rolling radius! I can only hope that he fails to re-gear the speedo and drives through a few cameras.
I did find page one quite interesting though, and came away understanding the reason behind the existence of the barry bodykit. No, not for aero, but to make the car look closer to the ground again after the wheels you've fitted give it several feet of ground clearance.
